Thoughts on hexagon step cuts

A few years ago, I saw my first step cut hexagon diamond. It was love at first sight. It has the same spirit as an asscher, but the symmetry of every side being equal is so appealing to me. I usually wear pear diamonds in my ears but having to rotate them back into position is annoying. Unfortunately, I don’t like the look of rounds. Hexagons would be perfect for this.

Anyway, since then, I have seen a small number of them pop up, usually lab stones, and never much larger 1 ct. Occasionally it’s used for a gemstone.

Do you think this cut will grow in popularity or is it a flash in the pan? I know it’ll never compete with something like an oval or round. I would like larger 2-3 ct options though!

Examples:

Berlinger Jewelry (one off ring)

Taylor & Hart (they didn’t seem to actually have any available to buy, but they do have a webpage covering them.)

There are a number of 2+ ct options if you are open to labs. I don’t think they’ll grow in popularity based on how high they are priced.

I have one. It is a natural. It was set in a hefty ring dating back to the 70’s or so? Then I reset it. I think it’s fun but I don’t reach for it often.

They are tough to cut well, the cutting costs are probably 3-4x mrb but can have slightly better yield from the same rough.

I like them and may consider getting a lab one as a RHR, or smaller ones in a band as a RHR.

DK :))

I've wanted one, happy to see this post. Maybe I could get a mossy hexagon, Ankit and Vijay do a lot of unusual cuts.

Love the top one. Details, or are you considering it?

It is for sale from Berlinger still. I want a larger carat weight than this ring. I am a big fan of Berlinger though, I contacted their designer Michelle twice to look at bands and she FaceTimed with me to show me different options. I never did make up my mind, this is reminding me. lol

I am not opposed to labs at all, I was just wondering if they would start to show up more in the mines diamond market. I have both mined and lab stones. :)

I really like them too. Have considered buying a smaller mined one if one pops up that suits.

I know they are available on the wholesale market…just find someone you trust who has access to Rap.
