So, I''ve got the ring, got her parents'' blessing and we''re leaving for a tropical vacation soon (I don''t want to get too specific on the off chance my intended stumbles on this site). I''m having a little trouble working out the details on my surprise proposal.
We don''t get in until late afternoon the day after we leave, so I imagine we''re going to be a little tired and cranky when we get there. So, my first question is - do you think I should pop the question our first night there, or wait until the next day when we''re both likely in better spirits?
I think waiting a day would probably be ideal, but the ring is burning a serious hole in my pocket and I think I''m going to need to get it over with as soon as possible. I''ve got some plans in place already for the day of arrival, but could probably change the day without problem.
I''ve already arranged for a private torch-lit dinner for two on the beach at a really fancy hotel. I''m planning to sneak over there at some point the afternoon we get there and give them a bottle of extra good bubbly that I''ve purchased (they didn''t have anything sufficiently festive for the occasion on their wine list). They''ve agreed to have the table ready for us with the champagne on ice about 30 minutes before sunset.
I don''t really want to do the deed at the table - I''d rather do it somewhere else, then head to our private table to celebrate. There is a really scenic spot where we''re going that looks like it would be a very cool place for a proposal. It''s a short (10 to 15 minute) hike, sounds moderately secluded and has a majestic looking statue and a panoramic view. I''d like to do the deed here, but have a few concerns.
First, she generally loves to hike, but might not be in the mood to do so after all the traveling. I tend to get in trouble when we go on vacation because I want to run around and so stuff every minute of the day (and night). I''ve promised to take it easy on this trip and dragging her on a hike promptly after arriving might tick her off.
Also, once the deed is done, it would be a 15 minute hike and another 20-30 minutes of driving, parking, walking across the hotel grounds etc. before we got to our dinner table.
Which leads me to my second idea: get to the fancy hotel a bit early, walk around the grounds, beach, etc. and pop the question at a suitable spot. I could scope the grounds out for a good location when I drop off the champagne.
I like this idea, since it seems like it would be really slick to pop the question, then lead her to our private table on the beach with champagne waiting just a few steps away. The only drawback of this is it wouldn''t be as neat to say we got engaged at some fancy hotel as it would be to have done it at the awesome scenic spot.
Anyone have any thoughts on my options or suggestions on how to improve my plan?
