My bff''s beau is thinking of getting her this ring as an e-ring. Please ignore the pale yellow stone, also in the picture, btw.

The stats are: 2.8cts, heated cognac sapphire, one small inclusion, visible only with lots of searching. Setting is white gold.

The asking price is the US equivalent of about $2700. Does that sound reasonable to you folks? I can''t find that many cognac sapphire comparables online, but my impression is that cognac sapphires are valued LESS than other colours, is that right?

There are a few cognac sapphires on NSC in the ''unique'' collection - the prices aren''t particularly cheap there, so it''s probably not a long way off the mark. There''s an untreated 3.17ct in a similar shade for $3170.

Personally I''m not that keen on that particular shade - but I''m not the one who will be wearing it. I like a bit more of a chocolatey shade than a mustard.

I must admit I have been oggling the cognac diamond on LM.

That thing is yummy.

This ring wouldn't be my choice either, but both bff and her beau LOVE it, and the setting.

I think it''s very lovely and unique

Just my 2 cents.

I think it's gorgeous...not something I'd pick for myself, but I'm a cool/bright color person, so take that for what it's worth.

Having said that, I'd grab that setting in a heartbeat. BLAM! I can already see a bright blue sapphire in there...

I think *that* is really the most important factor when buying colored stones. If they love the color and the price seems fair to them, they should grab it. It certainly isn''t outside of the realm of reasonable prices (esp. if it includes the setting) in any way, but with some looking I think they might be able to find something for less. But that is just a guess.

While it''s not something I''d like to wear as an engagement ring, it is just lovely. I think it would be a great RHR.

If they love it, then go for it. I don''t think the price seems off especially with the setting in the cost as well.

It''s definitely a one off and very unusual.

I must admit I was expecting the cognac sapphires to be cheaper than they actually are - mainly because there isn''t a huge demand for brown stones in general.

i like the stone, i like the setting, and i''d wear it as an e-ring......however, i like the unusual.

I agree that it seems like a reasonable price based on the NSC prices for just the stone alone. If they like the colour then there''s no reason not to!

Yup, they love the colour. Both of them. Looooove it. I advised the beau to look for a window, the symmetry of the facets, and make sure the inclusion wasn''t noticeable / bothersome, then to ask for the ''best price'' they can offer, and then go for it.

Anything else you can think of that I should tell him to check for / ask about?
