Hey guys,

Thanks for your help so far.

I am zoning in on a 2.51, E, Eye-clean Si1 with only clear includions, EX/EX/EX, no fluorescence.
I saw the diamond in person and it looked really nice.

I got the GIA grading report via fax today. Unfortunately the Report number is not on this faxed sheet. I have two concerns...

1) The report is dated January 22, 2010. I said to myself, why hasn't the diamond been sold? It seems like it's been around for a while. Anything to worry about?

2) Dimensions.
Table = 60
Depth = 61.5
Crown angle = 35.0
Pavillion angle = 41.2

Now the hca report shows 4.3. Should I be scared by these dimensions? I realize the HCA is only one tool, and some website quoted it to be "a work in progress". Two gemologists i visited with said they have never heard of the HCA, and they stated if you like it and it's ex/ex/ex, go for it. I have not seen it under and ideal scope.

The stone is at a non-priscescope vendor. It is at a physical store. Got the price to 34k and i'm happy with the vendor.

Thoughts??

THanks!!!

2.5 cts don't sell all that often, so the age is nothing to worry about.

Gary admits that HCA is a little bit harsh, and stones with HCA up to 2.5 or 3 may be excellent performers. Up to 4 is considered "very good, worth buying if the price is right." I would agree with that.

the HCA is a useful tool but a blunt one. Can you get an idealscope image? That would be more telling.

ex/ex/ex doesn't mean much, can have variety of appearances, wide range of proportions within GIA ex grade

carguy...is the stone close to 8.80mm in diameter?

hi dancingfire, sorry for the late response.

it looks like its around 8.71. did you look at a similar stone?

thank you rockdiamond! your post, and others, made me feel more at ease. I ended up going with the diamond. Will post pictures when its all set!

glad to see another car fanatic! I eat, sleep and dream! :wavey:

You're welcome!!
OK- totally OT ( off topic) but now I have to ask what you're drivin' this week.....

lightly modified WRX STI. :wacko: . Outgrowing it just a bit, but still love it! How about yourself?

That's a hot car(guy)!!

Me? BMW 135i convert...doncha just love leaving rubber in 2nd and third gears?

Carguy,

The HCA helps novice consumers chose stones that could potentially have the best light performance.
The prevailing advice on PS is for top performance choose HCA < 2 and then check by other rejection tools like Idealscope and ASET.
If your standards (or budget) is not considering a top performing stone and you want just an average to very good in the areas of light performance than you can use your own eyes and choose whatever you wish. The difference between HCA 2.5 and HCA 4.0 means very little to me as it wasn't meant to be used as a grading scale and both are above the top performing threshold.

If you are concerned about LP then get an Idealscope image and post it in this thread, then we can tell you whether the stone exhibits excessive leakage or obstruction and given those proportions it likely will show some. How significant this is depends on other proportions not availabe on the grading report. Whether some LP flaws bothers you is a matter of your own personal preference and tradeoffs.

Rockdiamond...sweet ride! I love the 135's. That thing is a turbocharged beast. Many people have no idea how much power it packs. Love the 1's and BMW's in general. Have an E36 M3 also (stock). Steering is unreal. Not to tempt you but i'm sure you've heard of the 1-series M coming out soon? I don't think theyre going to name it M1 to confuse it with the original, but i am not sure. Should be released at the detroit auto show in january. :Up_to_something:

Cushion. That was a great reply. Huge thanks! I'm going to have it appraised by an appraiser that has an ASET and idealscope.
