Thoughts on this Green Tourmaline

My dear CS friends,

I am needing your thoughts on this Tourmaline. I am thinking a simple solitaire setting for this but I am not sure, I don't want to darken the stone anymore than it already is. My wife is a fan of darker greens so the tone and saturation is a good fit for her.

I know that many of you will know who this vendor is, but please don't name the vendor in this thread. I know I am taking a great risk of this stone being picked out from under me by posting here but I really want to hear your thoughts on this.

I know the vendor. With this vendor we need to see the video to judge more accurately. In this case I suspect it will be on the darker side.

The video is surprisingly close to the pictures. The video does show more of a bluish green vein up the center of the stone.

Hiya, Justin! :wavey:

While it is a pretty stone, I agree its on the darker side of things. I would assume that most of the time, it will look like it does in the video when its at its darkest. I imagine that a good bit of time it will be dark with flashes of the pretty green, so you might not be able to appreciate the cutting as much as you might like. But the vendor will tell you honestly so its worth asking. :))

Roger that! Its good to hear from you, and thanks for the incite! I greatly appreciate it!

I see a lot of yellow in the stone, so I suspect it had a more yellow axis. If you're looking for a more bluish green tourmaline (are you?), this isn't it.

Hey TL, No I am not necessarily looking for bluish green, so the yellow axis isn't really a big deal. Thanks!

Hi, Justin. :wavey: By the way, I must say I love your sapphire - I followed your journey before becoming a member. :) Anyway, onto the tourmaline...

I find it very pretty. There is some variation in color, ranging from a bit yellowish to forest green and a hint of blue. The cutting looks great. It might be on the darker side, yes, but if the two of you are okay with that then great. I think it's worthy of seeing in person to evaluate!

Based on these photo's alone it looks like a really nice stone. I also have a preference for darker toned saturated hues.
If you are serious I would at least ask the vendor for a 24-hour reservation period so that you can seriously consider buying it or not. Otherwise lurkers might snatch it away from you.

The video does show that the stone is a little darker than the photos, but it's a nice color if you like a dark green with a yellow modifier. If you like it, I second Acinom's suggestion to put a hold on it. Not only do many of us know who the vendor is, but also those that do not can easily google the stone and swipe it. :shifty:

You said: "My wife is a fan of darker greens so the tone and saturation is a good fit for her."

The cut looks good, the price is obviously agreeable to you, and you won't know how the color truly looks in your location until you see it in your location.
I use color calibration software on my computer and I am not seeing a lot of "yellow" (other than the green=blue+yellow), but I do see the bluish-green center. It looks just like a green tourmaline!
Honestly, what we "see" is irrelevant, since pictures are just approximations anyway. If you don't see it in person, you will never know...

I apologize for using this thread for a personal question that has nothing to do with anything in this thread but I need to know where did Sparklieslover get her ring in her avatar image??? I'm dying! I'm assuming Sparklieslover lover is not a man sorry if I'm wrong.

Her blue-green Afghan tourmaline is from Precision Gem. I think there is still some rough left for cutting, buy only larger pieces.
The beautiful setting is from David Klass.

The eBay listing for this gemstone ended as unsold, therefore, it is still available.

DK :))

Thank you all so much,

I have been in contact with the vendor. After closer evaluation my wife is seeing "something" she doesn't care for, but she can't put her finger on it.

I really think it is the Yellow modifier. I so badly want to see it in person but she doesn't seem that crazy about it anymore so I don't want to waist the vendors time.

I personally really enjoy the stone but its not for me haha!

Yes there is no replacement for seeing a stone in person for sure! Been there on my sapphire journeys.
I really value the feedback of this community and I am always pleasantly surprised by the feedback I receive.

SparkliesLuver thank you!
