Time for a repurpose?
I had a thought, I’m more likely to wear it as a bracelet than a ‘watch” and I have a large marquis sapphire needing a home.
I’m not likely to ever set the sapphire as a ring or pendant, especially a ring as I already have 3 ring projects lined up and besides I already have a beautiful yellow sapphire ring (excluding Truth!).
So how’s this as an idea.
The sapphire isn’t a perfect fit in the space (sans the watch crystal and watch) so I’d get a white gold “rim” (and the back case could supply the gold for the rim) to fit exactly in the space where the watch crystal is and on that “rim” I’d have two half shaped bezels attached to hold the sapphire in the setting. Either that or 4 prongs, 2 each side.
It would be quite a unique bracelet and easy to wear I think.
Please Excuse the sticky tape and lop sided position in the “wrist photo”.
Hmmmm.

I LOVE the idea...the question is how much the metal rim will disrupt the look. If you don't do it with the marquis, I wouldn't give up on the concept.

When done wellcthe concept can be lovely but that marquise is not the same shape and would look a bit hodge podge

I like the idea but I lack imagination to visualise the result... would the bezel on each side be metal? Seems really chunky. Maybe put your melee collection to work and cover all the empty space with little gems?

I’ve also consider just doing a “tutti fruiti” centre ie various colours set into the gold insert that fills in the “hole” where the watch face currently is.
This is the other one I’m definitely doing. It’s a beautiful platinum and diamond French Art Deco watch. Watch works but the numbers are so tiny I can barely see them. The ruby will go in the centre and there will be wee round diamonds or baguette shape filling in the gaps top and bottom, width wise it fits almost perfectly.

I love this idea! So creative.

Could you have someone engineer a yellow sapphire lid? So that you could flip it open to tell the time? Or would that be extortionate? If the mechanism still works it would be a shame to not use it.

Hi Bron, I love the idea, but this would also be my worry.
