Thoughts on this Lang necklace?

Hi all! I don't have much experience buying estate jewelry and have mainly purchased ACA diamond pieces from pricescope vendors, but have been window shopping at Lang for quite some time. I recently fell in love with this aquamarine halo pendant (liked the proportions, color, and hidden bail) and went ahead with the purchase. I know Lang is a very reputable vendor so I don't mind paying a bit of a premium for peace of mind. Just wanted to get some general thoughts from those of you with more experience than I on this piece (e.g. quality/workmanship):

From what I can see, it is absolutely gorgeous! Wish I had a few more views to look at (like the gallery), but personally, I'd be absolutely smitten. I hope you love it!

I covet most things on Lang's website, and this is no exception. Look forward to seeing your own photos!

Looking forward to seeing OP's photos when it arrives!

It's not for me personally for its colour, shape, size etc.., however, concur with the others that it is a nice piece. :kiss2:

DK :))

To be honest, I stopped buying aquamarine, because they have been itradiated to a darker, blue color, and it can fade, and labs cannot detect the radiation treatment. There are also very convincing synthetics out there.

If you’re confident of the source of that aquamarine, and that it’s natural and original to the piece before this type of treatment was used, I have no real qualms with that. However, not knowing the price, I can’t tell you if it was a good deal or not. Perhaps money is not a big issue to you?

Thank you for this info! I am not super concerned about price but I would be upset to have bought a piece that will fade in color with daylight exposure...or if it was a different stone entirely. Lang did assure me the stone was natural aquamarine, but I did not ask about irradiation/not sure if they have any way to be certain regardless. The color looks more santa maria to me than maxixe beryl, so hopefully it is not irradiated. I figure worst case if it faded Lang would be willing to work with me on resolving the issue given they stated it was natural aquamarine and their great reputation.

@T L doing some research, it seems like irradiated maxixe beryls fade pretty rapidly with light exposure, so I feel more reassured that's unlikely to be an issue with an estate item that's likely been around for some time. Was there a specific timeline you noticed fading?

It also seems Lang has all pieces inspected by their gemologists, which is also reassuring!

Oh my gosh, @GemLimerence, that is gorgeous. I've bought from Lang four times, and I've always been very pleased. Plus, they're local; I sometimes stop by just to gaze at all the pretties. In my experience, Lang is as trustworthy as they come.

@Redwoods-hiker-girl Thanks so much for that very reassuring endorsement! It sounds amazing to be local - checking out their store is now first on my list for an SF visit =)2

I got an aqua that color and it faded. It’s not just the darker blue ones.

That makes sense (same situation with a lighter irradiated blue beryl or light aqua, given it's all beryl, but it still seems any fading would happen fast)! Appreciate the insight - it's good to know to be weary of irradiated beryl and various mimics when buying aquamarine stones.

I do feel really confident about this particular piece though now. Thanks so much to everyone for your input! =)2
