Thoughts on this purple sapphire?

As I said in a previous post, I'm in the market for a lovely sapphire. Probably 1-2 carats, budget it flexible (although no more than 3k, preferably less).

I was looking for blue but came across this lovely purple sapphire from Jeff White. How does it look to all your much more experienced eyes?

If you have any other suggestions please let me know. Not worried about heat vs no heat, but would like it to be deeply saturated and have a nice sparkle to it.

Here is he purple one. About 6th from bottom (can't link to it directly for some reason)

Thanks guys

Personally, I love the color of this sapphire. I almost bought it but I keep using my available funds on other impulse buys. :lol-2:

I am loving the color of JW’s purple sapphire

They are lovely, I’d love a purple sapphire  I am just a beginner with gems though.

Wow, thanks guys! All great suggestions, how very beautiful.

Have you seen any lovely blues anywhere? I had my heart set on a blue (I think) but can't find any that are just write. Pretty sure I want a cushion (or maybe an emerald cut), as I'd like to halo it eventually.

LJSapphire - I'm a complete newbie too. I've lurked a while and absorbed as much as possible, now hoping with the help of everyone I can find something that I'm truly in love with!

I love the Jeff White sapphire. It’s so saturated and lovely, without any pink tones. Although that’s just my opinion!

That's just beautiful!
I absolutely can’t stand how gorgeous it is. I almost considered blowing my budget for my own sapphire after Roger posted it, but I decided to be good! I hope someone buys it and loves it!

A blue - purple colour change might be good for you ... Some of these have astonishing, saturated colour(s) yet, they are usually discounted somewhat relative to straight blue. The colour change is not commonly strong - more of a shift.

This is one such thing: www

& one more - lighter & nicely cut, methinks: www

& a few more here - www (I have known this shop for too long, and they seem to have a particular sensibility for colour change sapphires ... je ne sais quoi !)

Very expensive and not precision cut, even though it's being sold by a lapidary. Purple sapphires are not as expensive as blue sapphires, but this is priced for more than 1k/ct.

I love the color of this one but it's nice to know it's priced too high (I thought so but I'm no expert). I did notice the cut though. :D

Mmmm...I think you’re going to have a hard time deciding! So many pretties!!

Looks very included when I blew up the photo.

I like the light blue radiant the best, but I'm partial to pastel stones.

You can get them much cheaper - esp. the first 3 stones.

The sapphires wirh a CC from blue to violett/purple have often an grayish blue daylight color.

Just my opinion.

Lovely choices. I too noticed the color of that purple stone from Jeff White. But I also saw all the inclusions that might be visible and bother me. So since you really want blue and have a healthy budget I'd skip the purple and go for a blue.

Some of the color change sapphires can look muddy in certain lights. So again, go for a blue.

What shade of blue are you looking for? Two of the Earth's Treasury stones have a fair bit of green in them. Nothing wrong with that if i't s the blue you like!

Thanks so much for all your helpful replies! Lots of eye candy and food for thought!

I agree with the JF stone - colour is wonderful, but I too am concerned about the inclusions. I think they'd probably noticeable in real life and that would bother me.

@Stone Hunter - you are right. I really am holding out for a blue I think. I'm not so keen on the green/blue, I'm more looking for a deep royal blue. I love the look of darker stones, but I don't want it to black out in certain lightings. Preferably either round or cushion I think. And as sparkly as is possible!

I'm also based in the UK, so I'd like to buy from a company that I can return to if I see it in hand and it's not what I expected. I don't know how much this varies when sending abroad?

Thanks again for all your help everyone. Your collective knowedlge really is invaluable.

Not to threadjack, but I really like the look of the finewater purple stone. What am I missing about the cut?

The Jeff White stone will be eye clean in real life. I have commissioned a tourmaline from him before. My stone looks worse on the photo but the inclusions are hard to see with naked eyes. My concern for this stone is that the colour of the stone looks uneven

Thanks pwsg07 for sharing your experience. Do you see uneven colour in the Jeff White stone or in the finewater stone? Or both?

The JW stone has not only included, but it's rather dark. That may account for why it looks uneven in color. The gemfix purple sapphire looks cloudy. The finewater purple sapphire is very flat in color. It reminds me of a low quality amethyst.

This is an amethyst, but shows how a purple stone can be vibrant and multidimensional in color. I'm not sure if purple sapphires are that vibrant. Maybe look for a less grapey purple and instead a bluish purple or violet if you want a purple sapphire. There are really gorgeous violet sapphires.

That may be the case for your stone, but the inclusions may be eye visible with this stone.
