spinel_338_A.jpg I know next to nothing about cs. Buy I want a red spinel that is red, not pink or purple or orange. What do you think about this one?

Thanks for ant input!spinel_338.jpg

IMG_7548.jpg I think it's an orangish red. It may look more orange or more red depending on the type of lighting.

This is the reddest spinel I've ever seen, although some may consider this a pinkish red. I personally either see a secondary of orange or pink in red stones, and I'm always drawn more to pinkish reds. Your taste may differ.

It looks gorgeous in the photos! If it looks like this in real life, I would say it is a keeper (or would be for me anyway). I will say though - it is extremely hard to find a red that doesn't have any secondaries at all (or at least a perceived secondary).

Thanks! I am glad you think it is more orange than pink. I definitely lean orange if it isn't totally red. Your stone is beautiful!

I would check if the Gemfix stone shows any brown IRL.

I would take it and compare against the ones here

https://www.finewatergems.com/store/c13/Spinel.html. Pearlmans, AJSgems, and Prima may also provide some other *more orangy* options to compare against.

I also think seeing the gemfix stone in person, to decide whether it has any brown could be really important for me. It just looks a little dark in the handshot.

The gemfix stone looks a little pink in one photo, and a little orange in the other. If you're trying to avoid *any* trace of orange, you might be below the threshold where internet photos could be trusted for exact color reproduction.

How amenable to buying and returning stones? Seeing it in person is the ultimate way to judge the subtlies..

Hers's another that might be close to what you're after, but too close for internet photos..

It looks beautiful! I would go for something lighter though if you want more of a stoplight red. I am not as good at discerning secondary colors as other members on here.

I think I would prefer more pinkish, just because I saw similar Burmese spinels, although none of Andrew's wonderful cut.

Ceg, is there a way to take a screenshot of that post of yours and photoshop a little bit? The dog looks at the red spinel as if it is going to gobble it down!

(This would be my face at the sight of this spinel, lol!)

I think you will need to see it in hand. The video shows IMHO a very nice red spinel. I went through my red spinel phase and found that IMHO Burma red spinels were much more predictable in that they looked as good or better than their videos. Red Mahenges (not neon) were always a disappointment to me.

My vote is to see it in person. IMO I think it comes down to environment. Texas is closer to the equator than some locations, so you might see the orange but you also might love it and not care....lol

I'm in florida so yeah it could be more orangy in person than on screen because of the type of sunlight we get here. They've got a good return policy so IMO worth seeing in person if the interest is high enough.
