The price you paid is almost too good to be true. My concerns would be: 1) that it looks darker in the GIT photo and the photos look like they are flooded with bright light, so it could be darker; and 2) I don't believe GIT is equipped to test for more invasive treatments, so you are buying on the strength of the seller's say so, because the lab report doesn't rule it out. Perhaps I'm wrong about GIT and would happily stand corrected if they have the LIBS or LA‐ICP‐MS testing equipment.

I understood GIT had and uses LIBS on the sapphires they test. In Fact, if you take a close look at the Cert you will note that it indicates LIBS was used...Am I OK on this?

As for the color, I will only know that when the stone arrives and I can look at it in person...fingers crossed. I have purchased and returned several stones so far...hoping this may be the one.

It looks like you are correct. If LIBS is sufficient, then you're good to go. If its beautiful, then you have an amazing deal. Please post pics when it arrives. I am SO keeping my fingers crossed for you!

This sapphire has been sold and returned but I really hope it look as good as the photo! Good luck and come back with pictures when you receive it :)

For those not in the know-how, please post the GIT memo. I presume you have verified the authenticity of the memo and stone with the lab?

I have not contacted the lab yet to verify the Memo.

Here is the MEMO:

I saw that indication before I made the purchase, I actually contacted that buyer and asked if they would share their reason for returning the stone....

Per that buyer he never saw the stone in person, he stated he mis-bid on his ipad and asked the seller to cancel the sale...which the seller did.

So no luck getting any stone impressions from him...

Once verified, should be kosher. Then after that, all that's left is to see if the sapphire looks as pictured (colour wise, no chips or inclusions that aren't shown, any sort of colour shift, etc.)

Sounds like you've done your due diligence. Now just wait to open the package so you can fall in love with it! After all, it is your eye that is going to appreciate it every day. I think it looks beautiful!

It does look beautiful in the pics. If the memo checks out w/GIT, here's hoping it's as stunning as its portrait! I'm impressed with the background work you've done -- you deserve for it to be as portrayed. Hoping to see your in-hand photos soon.

i love a deep stone. i too hope this is "the one".

If these pictures are true, this is a very stunning sapphire. There is almost no window in the center and very little extinction throughout the stone. My guess is that the stone will hold a lot of brilliance. The color is ideal and definitely appears Sri Lankan in origin. I really hope the stone turns out to be as the pictures imply. You will have found yourself an incredible sapphire.

Could you share the vendor & price? That looks very close to the stone that I am also looking for for an engagement ring. Good Luck, hope it proves to be as good as it looks! :D

Kaos: I would not get your hopes too high on being able to replicate keen's acquisition for two reasons: 1) if the photos and lab report prove to be representative/accurate, then the stone is just about the only sapphire of that size and quality I've seen this vendor carry; and 2) IMO, the price was so low as not to be considered indicative of going sapphire prices. With that said, it is obviously the OP's call whether they want to share the info you seek.

In case you have not already done so, you may want to look at the pinned thread on vendors at the top of this page - its broken down into good ebay vendors, precision cutters, and other purveyors of stones. Its a good starting point in finding your sapphire. You may also want to start your own thread in which you define your criteria and seek help - as you've probably seen, there are so many amazingly helpful people here who are excellent gem detectives. :))

This information may or may not be useful for the reasons Minou stated. Also, just because the vendor has this one sapphire is no indication that he is able to get another similar one any time soon or if at all again. This is the nature of coloured stones where good stones are difficult to find.

Minous & Chrono - Thanks for the response & advice. I recognize the hit or miss nature of the "hunt". I've been looking for a couple months now & have "favorited" several websites found on here and visit regularly as well as read virtually every post on here pertinent to my search. Fortunately, I don't have a hard timeline and can afford to be patient and wait for the right "one".

I'm incredibly impressed with just how helpful so many of you are here... I've reached out to a couple precision cutters with my inquiry, and right now I'm waiting to see what Jeff White can stir up before broadening my search with a separate thread on here. I read another thread that talked about the frustration from the vendor's side of having multiple cutters working towards the same search and want to respect that.

For me, I think I've determined that a really great stone with an amazing precision cut is the goal. I (well, she) can live with heat or minor / hard to notice imperfections as long as it's a really brilliantly cut stone.

Thanks Again!

I don't mind sharing some details:

The seller is "WIMONGEM" on ebay. The stone was purchased with the make offer option and several rounds back and forth.

The final price comes out to just under $600 a carat. If the stone is as it is pictured and the GIT cert checks out I will consider this a very successful purchase.

We shall see...fingers crossed.

I have come across their listings before, so I may have seen this stone and moved on with the asking price. Guess the lesson learned is to be willing to make a low offer!

Congrats for a great find & deal and I hope it works out. I'm definitely looking forward to your review so I can decide whether or not to keep the ebayer on my short list.

Well the semi pros have given you some good advice that you already seem to have done so all that is left for me is to be awestruck looker. Gorgeous color and I hope that its all that it promises! I love happy endings :appl:

Currently awaiting DHL delivery...fingers crossed.

Please make sure to update us! Can't wait!

Just a quick update...

The stone arrived late Friday night and I took a few days to look at it in all types of lighting.

It is quite spectacular and I am very happy with it. It is just the light and lively type of stone that I was looking for. It is deep overall but not offensively so.

The color is very nice and it appears that even after it is set it will not cross over into the "to dark" area we are trying to avoid (for our tastes at least). The stones shade is closer to the vendor pics than the image on the GIT cert...it is a great stone with touches of violet & blue that seem to be common with sapphires of this origin.

I was able to get the GIT to confirm the certificate is legitimate and I did have Courtney Balzan do a quick stone/cert match as well as an overall stone evaluation. Everything checked out very well and everyone who has seen to loves the stone.

Thank you all for your help and I will try and get some in person pics soon.

:appl:

Congrats on snagging a very nice sapphire at a good price. You've persisted both in time and price. You also did your homework with the lab and verification with a good appraiser. Looking forward to more pics and the setting process.

We bought three sapphires when in Sri Lanka a couple of years ago. Like many, we got caught up in the thrill. We now know 10x more then we did prior to the purchase, which means our knowledge has only now reached the kindergarten level! Humble pie!

While we like our stones, this one blows them out of the water...absolutely stunning. Nice job! Would like to hear more about the selection process you pursued!

Cheers, H

The ring has been done for about a month but I just put it on her finger last weekend...a quick photo from the phone to get things started.

Wow! That is spectacular! And congrats on the engagement! :appl:

ONLY ONE PICTURE?!?!?!!? C'mon! We need at least a dozen more!

Love love love that shade of blue. It's perfect. Goes with my shoe. :naughty:
