So I did a thing and bought this 0.65ct L VS2 5.7mm x 3.24mm & managed to snag it for $760 kinda of impulse buy if I'm honest.

I tried to get shots of it from slight different front on angles from the Video attached below but I'm relying on all the Antique Cut Experts here does it look like a Transitional & more importantly does it look an optically nice Stone? I thought it did, BUT I've made some awful choices in the past with Transitionals especially just look up my first Transitional Buy lol

Will be able to provide more Pics when it comes hopefully in the next Week!

I anxiously await for all your Expert Testimony on this lil Gem, Thank-You in Advance!

I almost bought that ring! Had it saved in my favorites. I like it, but it wasn't quite the pattern I was looking for in a transitional stone. But I would get it and see how it performs IRL

I'm not an expert @Cosmetologist, just a lover of sparkly things lol...but I think it's a pretty stone and I love the setting. Looking forward to more pics!

Also I'm sorry to be a stalker, but your other transitional with the purple fluor is one of my favorites! That's the facet pattern I'm looking for, which is why I didn't pull the trigger on this one.

So uncanny! Although I know I'm in good company if I know you were considering this one, I felt exactly the same way you do with the Facet Pattern, It felt neither here nor there Transitional Wise in the Images... It was the Mount that sold me on it plus it seemed like a pretty good price from what I've paid previously for a Loose Lower Colour Transitional before.

The price is great and the mounting is super nice. I really think you'll need to see it in person and figure out how it performs IRL to know if you like it or not

Thanks! I think I totally lucked out with that one although I did mess up beforehand prior to getting that one with the Transitional supposed Graded Hearts and Arrows by EGL, Go figure lol they do seem to be getting harder and harder to find, I agree with this Stone though it needs to be seen IRL, fingers crossed I love it!!

Have you seen it yet? The cut could be better. These photos make me think it will not be as lively as it could be because the proportions are not as precise as they could be. This make looks best when there is a high degree of precision in the cut, and maybe a bit higher crown than this one seems to have. Do you see how messy the faceting looks in the hand shot you posted? Ideally in that kind of shot you would see a clearer pattern.

Nope haven't seen it yet hopefully should see it soon, The Handshot pic I just put down to weird lightning that is why you aren't seeing any clear pattern, I mostly judged it from the Video that was available as the overall facet pattern looks pretty good face on.

Hopefully I'll be able to upload some pics soon showing a "Non Messy Facet Layout".

Back in the day I bought dozens of old cut diamonds on eBay from horrid photos so I have a fair bit of practice interpreting poor photography. When I diamond is well cut you can see it even in “bad” photos.

What an amazing skill to have, wish I had it your obviously very adept! There's me thinking I was being rational by making most of my judgement based on the Video rather than a still semi clear hand photo with various points of light glare in the stone just proves how wrong you can be!

What I wouldn't give to have your ability to be able to deduce a diamonds optics solely from one awful photo :cry2:

It finally arrived after some delay with Shipping, I managed to take some Hand Shots outdoors in Shade & Sunlight & a quick Video - It really surpassed my own expectations Optics wise & performed really nicely with the gorgeous Checkerboard...What do you all think & most importantly do you think this Stones qualifies as a Transitional Cut?

Gorgeous!!!! It definitely looks transitional. And what a bargain imo!

Thanks so much, Price wise this is definitely the best value piece I've ever bought glad I took plunge on this one to see it IRL!

This is exactly my grandmothers engagement ring! :kiss2:

I can definitely still see the messiness I was talking about (see how the patterning is not symmetric in the close up and there are triangular darker zones at 1 and 7 o’clock? Compare that to my avatar eg). But overall it looks pleasing the the eye and you obviously like it so win-win.

It looks like an older style of cut because of the very small culet and the medium lower halves giving fatter arrows. But the low crown and relatively large table make it later. Would need to see the girdle and pavilion to tell more. Maybe 1930-ish? It’s a flavour of “transitional”, though that’s not a technical name for any particular cut. Like mine is an American cut from the 1920s. I think yours is later based on the smaller culet, shallower crown/larger table, and longer lower halves (compared to my cut). I base this in the book I the photo which I highly recommend.

I've got that Book it's such a good read my other Transitional is a Doppelganger to a stone featured in there, definitely a must read.

I'm still struggling to see the messiness your talking about but I have got to thank you for mentioning it in your other comment as I honestly thought it was going to be dud especially when you said you could tell an ugly cut stone from one bad image, so you can only imagine my surprise when it arrived & I saw that Checkerboard light up.

It’s so pretty and I love how it reflects the colors in the environment, it also looks quite substantial in that setting, a real score for the price you paid.

I have a diamond that has the early round brilliant cut like in the book you mentioned and it is probably only 1/2 carat but my favorite diamond I own. Lucky to have found that one.

Thank-You, Yeah I definitely got lucky price wise - I'd love to see your 1/2 one if you have pics close to hand also the Yellow Oval in your Profile Pic is just to die for!!

@Cosmetologist, here it is, sorry this is a little blurry but it’s the best picture I’ve been able to get that shows the faceting, the second is under a Japanese maple.

Thanks, my avatar is a fancy yellow from DBL!

Wow, Wow, WOW!

That is a veritable Disco Ball don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful example of a Transitional it looks just like Distinctivegems Ideal Cut Transitionals, just shows you size isn't everything but cut quality certainly is thanks for sharing adore the setting by the way too!

Also that pic is super clear can't see any blur wish half of mine were that crisp, I did have to laugh as I misread the Japanese Maple at first as Japanese Male, I didn't sleep well last night & it's starting to show! Me thinking people are actually using the shade provided by Japanese Males to take Glamour Diamond Shots!

@Cosmetologist, well thank you so much, it is my best cut diamond by far, I am lucky to own it.

:lol-2: @ Japanese Male, that is too funny!

Do you mind me asking if your new diamond or the one in the bezel setting (I have always admired that ring btw) go dark in direct sun? Mine goes dark like well cut diamond do. It is the only diamond I own that does this.

Oh my gosh yes! This puzzled me for the longest time all my Old Cuts show this quality in Sunlight to some extent, I myself only learned last year it's a common Optic Trait among Ideal Cut Diamonds like you said, My August Vintage Cushion being the worst offender & this new one a close 2nd but if it means I get stunning Optics in every other light source that's fine by me that's a trade off I'm willing to make!

I never really correlated it before until you said I just thought Diamonds can be so quirky in a multitude of light sources to me they all have there own personality.

Omg I love it! Definitely a little jealous that I didn't snag it for myself haha

Thanks I was waiting for you to comment to see what you'd say I'm glad you approve, I've been actually keeping an eye out for you but each one I've seen that remotely has the similar facet pattern to my other one is grossly overpriced it's like there's no middle ground at the moment and you've gotta search every bloody synonym for antique or vintage lol

What sort of price range are you thinking of? Because I saw a stunning one on Ivy & Rose the other day that was under 2k it had the similar facet pattern you like too.

Hmm, is it in the .5ct range? I'm trying to figure out which one it is haha

It's this one an 0.67 E SI1 although I see it's listed as an OEC not a Transitional I did think the Facet Pattern was reminiscent of my one and it looks absolutely Gorgeous!

Also looking for some advice the Stone is slightly loose so not wearing it at the moment but with it being vintage or antique will it be a pain to correct it?

I used a local jeweller to resize it up 1 1/2 sizes up instead of my normal jeweller who is 250 miles away, the bezel itself is not damaged & seems like it's just become loose after the resizing.
