Hello there, I know basically next to nothing about jewelry, but at the thrift store I work at we often get old and abandoned jewelry that others don't want. Usually they're worthless and tacky but I picked up a bracelet today that caught my eye in our "silver" section.

It has a fenghuang (a mythical bird kind of like a phoenix) and a dragon on it, with some waves and the sun in the middle. On the inside, it says 纹银 which is a sort of outdated way to say silver in Mandarin (hard to see in the picture, also it is upside down for some reason). I bought it for six dollars, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if it's worth much or direct me to some resources? I believe it's real silver; I tried the ice test (holding it against a piece of ice and seeing if it melted fast) and the marking on that back leads me to think it is both silver and somewhat antique. As well, it is malleable like silver, and once I polished and cleaned it, it did not look as bad (so I think it was just tarnished).

Thank you!

First, it’s a very pretty bracelet with a unique design!

However. I’m going to go out on s limb and say that judging by the pictures you’ve posted so far, it does not look like a solid silver piece to me, but more like a piece that was dipped or painted. I say that primarily because of what I see on the back: if this were solid silver, I’d expect tarnish to have accumulated in the little depressions, but instead they’re reflecting light. The same is true of the fine dimples on the front.

But I could be wrong - especially since I’m viewing your find on a tiny cell phone screen!

Either way, it’s s fun bracelet and I hope you enjoy wearing it!
