I love the Tiffany original engagement ring design and would like to get one, second-hand. For personal reasons, I don't want a replica or close copy (eg the Vatche U113 - just the original or I'll do without). I want a smaller diamond, around the 0.50-0.75ct mark. It will be for me.

I've found a 0.61ct, G VS2, in good condition, with all original paperwork, and the following proportions:

5.45 x 5.49 x 3.36mm

Depth 61.4%
Table 57%
Crown angle 35.1
Pavilion angle 40.8
Star length 55%
Pavilion depth 43.0%
Crown height 15.4%
Lower half length 80%

Girdle medium to slightly thick

Faint fluor
Cut: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Polish: Very Good

I've attached the HCA reading.

The price is 3250 USD equivalent.

I'd be grateful for thoughts on whether this is (a) a reasonable diamond, and (b) a reasonable price for what it is. (Please note I don't want a bigger or better non-branded diamond; I want this for the piece of jewellery as a whole). Thanks in advance.

I would be happy with anything from Tiffany’s.

I would be more concerned about authenticity. Is there a return policy? Can you take it in to a local Tiffany’s to get the stone setting inspected and ask for a repolish? Or could you go with the seller to drop off and be the one who picks it up?

Thank you! It's authentic (already checked out - slightly complicated but take my word for it). Mainly wanted to get a sense of if it's overpriced or reasonable, and nice diamond.

So you can get a .61, G, VS2 super ideal cut from Whiteflash for a wire price of about $2200. I know this isn’t what you want but I am offering it up as a comparison. The cut would be better than the diamond you are considering. So that leaves $1050.00 for the setting; these are today’s prices. Only you can decide if the price is right for you. I hope the ring would come with a receipt, grading report or something that would absolutely verify its authenticity. Make sure the seller has an iron clad return policy too - just in case you don’t like the ring for any reason when you receive it.
If you decide to move forward, please come back with pictures for us! The Tiffany allure is strong for some, and if it is really what you want, I hope it works out for you!

I would have looked into comps of what a new non-branded ring would have cost like what @MissGotRocks did. My estate jeweller has a .64, I VS1 Tiffany solitaire listed for $3,500USD. I think your ring a fair pre-owned price.

My rings are branded so I am a bit biased. The were expensive but I really enjoy wearing them. The craftsmanship is impeccable and if I ever need it serviced, I can go to any store.

If you do get this ring, send it in to get polished. It will look completely flawless and new to you.

Have you been to Tiffany to see what that would cost new?
I, too, have a “thing” for Tiffany so I understand what you are seeking.
If you do some comparison “shopping” at Tiffany you will know if this is a good price.
I’m excited for you!

I read that as Canadian mines got up and running, Tiffany secured a deal to siphon off all the best ones from Diavek. Not an expert but I can't imagine you won't be very pleased with the look of the ring.
Please post pictures!

Thank you all! Considering it carefully. It might not be quite the right time yet. It sounds like it is reasonably priced but not deal of the century..? So I expect there will be others in future if I don't go ahead right now.

A new one is three times the price over here!! I wouldn't buy it new though, so it's not a comparison of new v secondhand, but rather secondhand v not bothering iyswim.

HI:

A friend has tasked me with a mission..to find an estate Tiffany ring. So I've been to my fav (and many) estate sites....my point is I don't think that price is bad at all. And honestly I don't think there are any deals of the century, just what you are willing to pay for the brand. Love mine to distraction.

cheers--Sharon

I would buy it if you love it. You are still saving a lot over new.

Thank you all for comments, I appreciate it.

After a lot of thinking about my preferences, I'm finding myself drawn more to the Lucida. Obviously this is discontinued but there are still plenty on the pre-owned market. I've found one that I like the look of that is 0.88ct, also G VS2, (ETA: platinum) for the equivalent of 5300 USD (there's a Black Friday discount in there). It seems to be in great condition and is from a reputable UK jeweller.

I'd be grateful for thoughts on whether this is sounds reasonable. It doesn't come with the original paperwork, but it has 30 day returns and I'd be taking it straight to Tiffany to send off for resizing (which they would presumably refuse if it wasn't authentic).

Your local one seems to be a good price from poking around. Will just post these for your reference/consideration with papers or certs:

I know you want small but this would be similar dimensions as a .7-.75 round: https://poshmark.com/listing/Diamon...ida-princess-And-box-6374045a24237a5a2386a6f5

I think it’s well priced and I would get it since there’s a 30 day return. You need to see the stone in person. You’ll either love the facet pattern or hate it. Each stone is different.

Lucida was my runner up for engagement rings. It is cut deeper and looks smaller than a round. I think you’re making the right call to go up in weight if you’re after a certain size in millimetres.

Discontinued is not a bad thing. You’ll own a limited edition piece. There are only a few out in the wild and most are listed on estate jeweller sites.

Please post pictures if you get it!

HI:

There are a few Lucida's on era gems website.

cheers--Sharon
