I’m looking for a sterling silver Tiffany necklace as a gift for a family member’s 16th Birthday. I am open to any charms really, but my only definite request is an 18inch chain as she is a large girl. Ideally I would also like original packaging so that I don’t look like i’m a really cheap Aunty buying second hand goods! Happy to pay to have the piece cleaned & polished myself once I have it.

I’m looking to spend around $60-70 USD, plus international postage to the UK, which I will pay through PayPal.

Can anyone help before I start to scour internet sellers?

@Alex T
I've got a bunch. Let me find the ones I have later and will let you know.

Thank you, lovely! Trying to find a second hand chain of 18 inches is like pulling hens teeth :confused2: Shall check in here again later!

Most Tiffany pendants only come in 16 inch chains. They do sell 18 inch chains separately for their charms that are also sold separately. However a lot of the necklaces are made in a way that the pendant doesn’t come off the chain. In the past I’ve had chains lengthened. If I recall correctly you pay per inch of added length, but it would eat considerably into your budget of you do it at Tiffany’s.

Watch out for internet sellers, with Tiffany silver because of the cheap material cost (and huge demand) there's a TON of fakes. I mean there's tons of fake Tiffany's regardless, but silver in particular is a shady market unless you really know what you're looking for. A quick eBay search showed a lot of bidders on even the obvious fake Tiffany silvers. :confused2:

Hopefully someone here will step up with an unwanted piece, that'd be the safest option!

@Alex T Links of London does have an outlet on Ebay, it most definitely seems legitimate. Perhaps thats another avenue if you cannot find a Tiffany. Although that obviously depends on whether she would be just as happy with Links!

When I was 16 Links was super in fashion for my age group, Tiffany also. But that was yonkeys ago, so not sure what is trendy with teenagers today haha

What about getting a 16 inch Tiffany necklace and an inexpensive necklace extender?

Hadn’t thought of doing this! Thanks for the tip - it opens up a bigger search area!

@Matilda Links never even crossed my mind? I’m blaming my age. Off to have a look!

Haha I’m in the same boat! They have lovely silver stuff actually. I remember giving and receiving links charms at that age as birthday presents! They still have sentimental value. I just thought of links as trying to find REAL Tiffany used on eBay is tricky. Good luck! Though their serpentine collection has caught my eye haha :Up_to_something2:

Some ways I think you can avoid a replica is to stick to pre-owned (new and at a steep discount is a red flag), look at less popular styles (eg avoid return to Tiffany hearts and beans), and also look for pendants with some extra adornment that wouldn’t be worth a replicator’s time or budget like a small gemstone or enamel. I know some people have sworn by buying Cartier from sellers in Japan because the culture is so anti-fakes so I wonder if the same rule of thumb goes for Tiffany.

Thanks everyone!

Just to update, I have bought a very beautiful necklace from Links of London with a very delicious NINETEEN INCH chain. Yay! Thanks @Matilda for pointing me to them :wavey:

@Alex T I am so glad I could help!!

I hope it brings her much joy and "cool" factor haha. This thread has reminded me of my own sweet 16 and so many happy memories. :D

On another note I probably will also use Links outlet for Xmas presents; quality is very good, it is authentic, it has nice designs and I don't have to factor in delivery fee, import tax and duty!!
