Hi all, I was in Chicago this week and finally bought myself the Tiffany Frank Gehry Torque ring in silver that I have always liked. Problem is the ring is putting a green line around my finger, it started the first day I wore it. The ring itself doesn't look tarnished but I am sad its making my finger green! The ring is not too tight or anything, in fact it may be a little loose I have worn it on both my ring ringer and index finger.

I have wore a lot of silver and never had anything turn my finger colors so fast. Its a bummer because its Tiffany so I am sure its good quality. Anyone had experience with Tiffany silver turning colors?

I am guessing its my skin chemistry or something. I tend to wear the rhodium plating off white gold faster than anyone according to my jeweler :)

Thanks all

And for fun here is the ring...

Yes it''s probably a temporary change in your body chemistry, maybe you''ve been on some antibiotics or anything of the sorts, or have been changing your diet, but even if you haven''t, these things can happen due to weather, time of year etc. If it doesen''t change "back to normal" soon you might consider rhodium plating the inside of the ring, but other than that I''m not sure there''s anything you can do (cause then it probably has more to do with an alloy used for the piece).

We all have different reactions to metal, for instance I had a yellow gold pendant that, for some reason, started turning reddish due to copper coming out to the surface (not very red, but reddish than normal). I never had that happening with any other piece and the jeweller says he never saw that before. I ended up exchanging that piece, cause even after some gold plating the problem persisted.

yep, your chemistry or something you eat(tomatos, coffee, citrus, or medications) or wear(purfume, lotion, anything with zinc oxcide)is reacting with the copper alloy(the green smudge)also the fact that Tiffany now has a factory in Mexico may be a factor because there are different laws pertaining to the purification of the copper alloys used in silver jewelry in diffent places(I can wear sterling made in USA or Italy without turning but mexican made sterling and some other sources turn me black or green) so it could be one or several factors

Green means your skin is acidic and there is not much you can do to change it. I cannot wear silver or and cheap jewelry because my skin eats right through it. I have looked and looked on how to make my skin more basic but I havn''t found the answer yet.I also cannot wear 10 kt gold for the same reason.

Hmmm interesting! I wonder if all the coffee I drink makes me acidic? :)

my sister does the same thing to silver - just her body chemistry as far as I know.
