Ok, so BF surprised me with this ring this morning. Unfortunately it''s probably about a half size too small. Also unfortunate is that I live in New Mexico and the closest Tiffs is AZ or TX. Also, he bought it in February, so their 30 day return/exchange policy is up. So if I were to try to get it sized here in town would I hurt the integrity of the design? Should I try to ship it back to Tiff and see if they will exchange it or size it? I''m planning on calling Tiff''s customer service later today, and maybe going by a local jeweler...

So has anyone had a Tiffany ring sized by a non-Tiffany jeweler? How did that work out?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have a helpful answer, I just wanted to say

yay!

I know you lusted after that little thing! Personally I'd probably try Tiff's first.

I hope it's wearable soon!

Oh, and

?

Don''t have anybody but Tiffany''s work on your Tiffany ring. Seriously, it voids all warranties. I bet they would do an exchange on it if you just want the same ring but in a slightly bigger size.

Oh and CONGRATS!!! That''s an awesome surprise!

That's what I figured. I took it to two jewelers today and one said they'd do it for $65 and the other one said they wouldn't touch it and to send it back to Tiffany's. The first one also quoted me $500+ to set my 10x12 topaz in a plain white gold setting. The other one quoted me just over $200. They also both put it on the sizing rod it and the first one (Greedy Biznitches) said it was a 6.5 (they treated me like @$$ BTW) and the other one said it was just over a 6. I think he said 6.18. The receipt said that it was a 7-could they have send me the wrong size or could Tiffany's just be that off? I've heard that they can run small, but there aren't any sizing diagrams or measurements on their site, so I can't figure out what to do there...

Any suggestions?

ETA: I'm never going back to jeweler 1. They treated me like I was dirt and not good enough to be in their store. They won't be getting any of my business. Jeweler 2 OTOH was super nice, even though I look like I'm and can't afford anything...

I agree with sumbride-I wouldn''t let anyone else work on your ring. I probably won''t be back near a Tiffany store till next year and my lucida is a small bit loose now that I''ve lost some weight but I''m going to wait until then to get it resized-I''d be afraid of anyone else working on it. Your ring is beautiful! Delighted to hear that your bf surprised you.

Tiff''s will charge a nominal fee - $30. Maybe less for silver.

We had my Hubby''s plat band resized recently and it was $30.

Definitely send it to them, they may even tell you to send it directly to NY where all the work is done.

BTW: awesome color, can''t wait to see some hand pics.

Definitely call Tiffany''s and tell them the situation. Tell them he has had it but just gave it to you now. Im sure they will take care of it for you, they are great like that! If I were you, I would have only Tiffany''s fix the ring. Don''t take it somewhere else!

I have had a Tiffany ring sized by another jeweler, but it was about 10 years ago. Mine was a simple sterling ring, so not much can go wrong with it, but I definitely agree calling Tiffany. Totally true about calling, too - the people working the phones are awesome. My mom has had amazing assistance when tracking down items that are no longer in the catalogue/current collections.

Also - I think that price for resizing is a little crazy! My jeweler is charging me $45 to size AND shave down the gold on the gallery of my new stacker.

And $500 to set your topaz? EEEK! Did you ask about Stuller or Adwar settings? I received really high quotes to set the Richard Homer stones until I asked about stock settings - then it got a lot more reasonable. Even with the price of gold, that seems high.

I''d ship it back to T''s, Freke. Just call customer service and see if you can get a return authorization number, let them know you just need to exchange it for a different size. I wouldn''t trust anybody else with sizing your Tiffany jewelry for the reasons already stated in this thread (warranty, etc.).

Get this Elmorton-it was a Stuller. The price next to the pic was $48. WTF?!?!Now granted that gold has gone up-but NOT $450, or even $250!!! TOTAL rip off.

As for the Tiffany ring...I was supposed to call today but I've been putting it off. I don't mind wearing it on my left ring finger, but I think BF considers it to be the "engagement ring only zone" so I'm kind of at a loss. If anything it looks more like a wedding band than an engagement ring, but he's weird like that. So I'm just sitting in limbo over that whole thing.

Honestly, (and I haven't told him this yet) I was considering that if he got me this ring that I'd want to wear it in place of my ering on most days. Mostly because I want a blue topaz ering and I know the risks of wearing one everyday and how it will likely chip or break. So I'd wear the Tiffany on a everyday basis until the wedding and wear the blue topaz for special occasions. Is that a weird or totally off the wall idea?

I'm like this over it. --->

And if you want to see some pics (one of them being a hand shot) here is my initial thread: link

Oh heck here''s a new pic that isn''t on the site yet.

The Tiffany stacking ring is gorgeous on your thumb, Freke! And honestly, I don''t think it''s so off the wall to wear that for your e-ring most of the time and wear a blue topaz on special occasions. I heart blue topaz rings, I love step cut topaz''s, especially blue ones. I think it''s a great idea, what you''re considering.

Nice ring. On the sizing issue, here is the best approach:

Since you don''t have a Tiffany near you, you should mail it in to them and ask them to send you a new ring in the correct size. They prefer doing this rather than sizing for sterling silver rings. Call their customer service line and they can tell you where to ship the ring. It''s probably to New Jersey. You can tell them you are outside the 30 day window and let them decide. Meanwhile don''t wear it as they want it in saleable condition for an exchange.

It''s so cute. I know those rings quite well. I spent this past holiday season working at Tiffany as a seasonal sales associate. It was very interesting work indeed!

Beacon!!! You kept that a secret! Tell us more! Did you get a discount???? If I did that I''d probably earn $500 and spend $10,000. It would be a really good deal for them! Haha!

I agree with everyone and would send it back to Tiffany''s. It will be worth the wait. B&M #1 sounds horrible!

Ok so this is what I decided to do.....because it always fits my left ring finger and because it fits my right ring finger when it''s not swollen due to heat, I''m going to keep it and not mess with it at all. So what I told BF is that I''ll wear it on my left finger when my right finger is too swollen for it, and switch it to my right hand when it shrinks.

I also informed him that I''d wear it in place of my e-ring when I get it because it''ll be super fragile (blue topaz).

He basically said he doesn''t care, just so long as I actually wear it. (The tiff one.)

So all is well that ends well. I don''t have to worry about shipping it anywhere or ordering a different size. I was really concerned about ordering a size and not knowing what size it would actually be, after this fiasco. Plus, I figured that if i got it any bigger it''d be too big to wear all of the time, because both fingers swell-shrink about 3/4 of a size so I just don''t want to deal with it. I think I figured out a happy medium.
