DH bought me a diamonds by the yard necklace from Tiffany''s that I love. The only problem is that it''s 16 inches long and I need to get it extended to 20 inches. I''m not sure how Tiffany''s does extensions, but I''m assuming they will make the chain longer in the back and not be able to add any diamonds. Do you think this necklace will look funny since the diamonds won''t go all the way around? My hair is really short so you can see the back of the necklace. The 6 diamonds are supposed to be spaced about 3-4 inches apart, but with the extension, the diamonds in the back will be spaced 8 inches apart. You don''t notice it in the front, only from the back.

DH prefers me not returning his presents but I just feel like the necklace doesn''t look like it should with this extention. It doesn''t help that I know that WF and BGD make custom diamonds by the yard necklaces. What do you think?

why not call tiffs and see how they do extensions first? They may have an extender with diamonds.

No suggestions for you. I am bad though .. my fiance gave me a DBTY from Tiffany''s over christmas. I asked him to return it so I can get one from BGD or Whiteflash with larger diamonds at the same price :P

Find a way to make the necklace work rather than risk hurting your DH''s feelings.

Definetly call Tiffany''s and see what they say.

I would call Tiffs first. I''m sure they can offer a solution. Funny, my BF bought be the same and Tiff''s shortened it for me so it would sit right on collarbone. Compliments galore!

I have seen DBTY necklaces where the stones were intentionally clustered closer to the front and I think they look fine. Actually I think diamonds around the back of the neck are a waste and an extra 2 inches on each side doesn''t seem like too much anyway. I also would not return the gift. You might not get any in the future if DH thinks you are too picky.

I totally agree with this.

My DH told me he will not be purchasing me any more jewelry because I never wear what he buys. Hopefully he will change his mind.

I''m sure you could get a custom extender made by BGD or WF and it should match exactly.

Hmmn..
Let me get this straight. Your DH bought you a lovely Tiffany DBTY necklace, and you have something to say besides, "Thank you!!"? I don''t think you should return it. I don''t think having diamonds in the back is really a big deal at all, even if you''ve got short hair. I don''t think it "needs" to be 20 inches, or "needs" to have diamonds from the back view. Your DH doesn''t want his present returned, which makes perfect sense to me. He probably put a lot of time, effort, and thought into this present for you. It would seem like a waste of most of that if you returned it only to pick something out by yourself.

Sure, I understand knowing you can get a little more bang for your buck through some of the PS vendors. I definitely understand it being a pet peeve/something that may be on your mind, in which case I''d probably save up to buy another one from WF or BGD in the future and maybe I''d layer them.

Tiffany & Co. will add length to the chain to extend it. I had a similar issue with a gift T & Co. pendant (not DBTY) that I got from my DH in that I wanted a 18" instead of a 16" chain. I called their customer services number and learned that they will do the extension for a small fee depending upon how many inches you add to the chain. I am not sure if or how they''d add diamonds.

Congratulations on a beautiful present from such a sweet DH! I would definitely keep it, and ask Tiffany to extend it. I wouldn''t worry about the extra diamonds if Tiffany won''t include them in the extension. I`m sure it`ll look beautiful and it won''t be noticable at all.
