I''m thinking of having two tiny stones put on either side of the setting that I am thinking of buying (lots of thinking here!). The ring is engraved with some scroll work, and each side has a little flower. The two stones would be the center of each flower. The ring itself is not wide, only 2.5mm so the flowers of course are very small, with the stone centers eventually being even smaller than that, very tiny. It''s possible I can have the jewler open the middle of the flower a little bit, but I don''t know. Can anyone suggest what stones would look good at this size, and not like cheap little chips? Is there a good site where I can look at some examples of tiny stones to see what I might be interested in, in terms of the color? I''m open to nearly any color suggestion. here is the setting in question: http://fileserver.morker.us/diamonds/engraved.jpg

I would just go with whatever colour you like best and ask your jeweller to source them for you.

You'll need to have them hammer-set, so talk to them about what they can actually set.

What about blue or pink diamonds? You'd only need 0.5 - 1.0 pointers so they would be very affordable. Or a teeny cabachon ruby?

Roberto Coin puts rubies inside his designs, but they are a bit bigger I think.

They only sites I've seen with tiny stones are the Chinese/Thai wholesalers who do the calibrated stones.

You''ll need stones that stand out with strong saturation. I''d suggest getting a vendor to source them as many vendors don''t normally sell such small sizes. A few favourites might be the standard blue sapphires, rubies and pink sapphires. You can also go with demantoids (green) or coloured diamonds which come in a variety of colours.

Does anyone think it would look less chintzy if I used a smooth stone like a tigerseye instead of a cut stone like a diamond, based on the fact that what i''m going ot be getting is so tiny?

You really need to speak to the manufacturer first about what is physically possible, how often you intend to wear the ring etc, and what they feel happy setting.

Well I love tiger''s eye but I think that the effect of that particular stone would be lost in a size that small. I don''t know if you could even tell what it is.

Agreed. A tiger''s eye that small would just look like a bland brown or black stone. If it''s going in a ring, I''d stick with a nice hard stone like ruby, sapphire or diamond.
