TL,
I know you've been looking for an orange opal with play of colour for a while and I stumbled across one. Not a shape fit for a halo  maybe there isn't enough play of colour, or the orange is not vivid enough for what you'd actually consider purchasing, but I still think you'll like seeing it. One can never see too many gems.

(I know nothing about the seller other than the fact that some of their stones have AGL reports and some have no return period, and I'm not recommending them in any way shape or form)

Thank you LK,
Unfortunately for me, opal and color play, are one of the things I just cannot properly interpret online, so I haven't bought any. I have some orange opals, but they have no color play. I am also leary of African opals because I heard they can lose their color play, so unfortunately, at this time, I'm too afraid to buy one. I really appreciate you thinking of me though, and that is a lovely stone.

No problem, and I sincerely hope you'll find your holy grail opal.

I'll look into African opals and loss of their play of colour because I didn't know that happens.

Thank you. I'm sort of obsessed with another kind of gemstone at the moment, so opals are on my mind, but not as much as something else. :naughty: :cheeky:

Yes it happens - we bought some rough from Welo ( fresh material!) and Uli cut some beautiful stones - very good transperancy and top colorplay - after 2-3 month the stone lost the colorplay and was finally like a cheap white opal!!!

It depends on the source - some material shows no problem - some very fast...

So I stopped buying any kind of opal completely!!!

But TL - which kind of gemstone?????? Teeeeellll me - can I help you :halo:  ???

I have also had an issue with opal losing it's color play in some lighting, and that really bugs me about them. I also want a certain base color, but again, opal photographs are so inaccurate in my opinion (especially from vendors).

If I told you the gemstone I loved, I would have to kill you. LOL! :cheeky:

I actually bought some more of them, and I have to stop!! That's all I'm saying. :shhh:

You would kill me - for some here maybe a good solution for "two problems" .....just kidding!!! You know what I mean...

I think it is a larger grayish purple Taaffeite or a dark alexandrite....

I think you are soooo anti-gray....... Think you love gray rare cheap looking but extremely expensive stones!!!!

I actually don't mind a little grey, and I own several very greyish diamonds. A little grey helps keep cost down. What I don't like is buying dark grey gems (think charcoal), but to each his/her own. I also don't believe in overpaying for gems that are grey.

So what would be a challenge for TL ?

A fine vivid blue well cut blue cobalt spinel from Luc Yen ....

Or a Sri Lanka cobalt like this one.....can somebody post the pic?? Unbelievable!!!!

It would also have to be bargain priced and much bigger, LOL!

If I were a millionaire, I would definitely find these less of a challenge to come by. I would then buy a ticket to Baselworld. :naughty:

Tl,
I'm guessing it's tsavorite.... I recall reading you bought a cab recently, and I know you set a different tsav cab. Or maybe that was the same gem.

Can you tell us the colour? :saint:

LoversKites

Tsavorite....... yes !!!! TL hunts for fine Tsavorite.....

Thank you for the picture - this spinel ( looks like a hauyne!!) OMG!!!!

There's something very sweet about our knowing each other's tastes in gems.

I can't acknowledge guesses, but I will eventually spill the beans with a huge picture thread in the future (if anyone really cares ;) ).

Can't wait.

Me too...! :D
