I had already found the dress of my dreams but I decided not to spend as much as I had planned so that dress is out of the question - it''s 6000.

I went to the Saks sample sale and found a beautiful Melissa Sweet dress for 2500 (originally 4900). I haven''t purchased it because I''m worried I''ll find something I like more. I''m getting married January 2010 and I feel like it''s too far in advance. Also, I''m not in love with it, but I''m not sure if it''s the dress or because I''ll never like a dress as much as the $6000 one. It is my second favorite though and it''s a GREAT price.

What do you ladies think?

Don''t buy it. You aren''t certain, you are just tempted by the price.

If it wasn''t on sale, would you have picked it? If no, then it''s not the right dress.

Don''t impluse by your wedding dress.

The Four Dress Bride.

I feel your pain and anguish Diamond confused but having said that i bought my wedding dress a year before my wedding. I would wait if your not sure. A year before is not too soon to buy your dress as long as it''s what you want and are happy with it.

Ditto :)

I agree with Gypsy- don''t impulse buy your gown.

Twice I almost bought a dress that I liked enough but realized that I thought I truly loved it for the price.

I''ve been to 8 bridal salons and I found the dress that I adore at salon #5. I kept on looking to verify that it was "the one" and now that I''ve searched very thoroughly I''m going to purchase it soon.

I wouldn''t go for it based on price alone but I can see how it would be hard to turn down a Melissa Sweet dress at half price.

Good luck in your gown search!

Agree with everyone!
Keep on looking/trying!

Yep, agreed - you aren''t sure, you''re just tempted by the "deal." If you found one "okay" dress at a great price, you''ll find another one later (if it comes to that).

Work on finding THE dress within your budget

I fell in love w/ a crazy expensive dress, and I got it...

Here''s what has followed:

I love my dress, and I have no doubts about it. BUT, I have had to do some S.E.R.I.O.U.S tap-dancing with my budget to make other things work out satisfactorily.

It is much, MUCH more work than if I had just bought a more reasonably priced dress.

It''s just a matter of deciding what your priorities are. Some of the sacrifices I made:

I wanted the help of a professional planner, but can''t afford it anyore.

I needed to cut my guest list

I''ve scaled back my honeymoorn.

Work with your fiance to decide if you can scoot budget-money around to make it happen.

If I had decided to scale back my dress, I''m sure I would have found something I loved, just not as much, but, honestly? That''s my particular personality and, you have totally different opinions and priorities because, well, everybody does.

I just wanted to offer the perspective of a person who went for the dress, and is dealing with the subsequent alteration to the wedding budget, so you have both sides of the equation to compare and contrast.

Cheers!

I wouldn''t go for it unless you absolutely adore it. Is there any chance that you can get your dream dress for less-like maybe buy second hand on preowned wedding dresses or another site like that? Otherwise I''d hold on for another month or two and try shopping again.

Don''t do it. ($2,500 is NOT a small amount of money, anyway.)

You have a lot of time before your wedding to either a) find your $6,000 dream dress on sale, or b) fall head over heels in love with another dress.

There is not much that feels more unbelievably fantastic than being so in love with your wedding dress you don''t ever want to take it off. Wait for that dress, it''s worth it.

What is your dream dress? I would far suggest looking for a similar gown in your price range, and I am sure some PSers might be able to recommend some alternatives.

Having been to Saks recently myself, I am sure the dress is beautiful, but I had to keep telling myself I am looking for a dress that looks beautiful on me and that I must disregard how beautiful the dress is itself. Although only you know, my guess is that it was a gorgeous gown that, for what it was, was a great price. But, if it wasn''t gorgeous on you, it is just a waste of money.

Don''t do it, you will regret it. You never know, you may be able to find the dress of your dreams at a more budget friendly price, keep looking!

Thanks everyone. I decided not to buy the dress and just get the one I love. I was trying not to spend so much but I guess if we can afford it why not. I suppose we will just have to stop going to Vegas so much, at least till after the wedding.

I think that''s a great decision - if its really the one you love, you won''t regret it, and you''ll have those pictures forever
