To culet or not to culet

So my jeweler knew I’d be open to an elongated Asscher or EC with nice clipped corners to be more dynamic and this just came across her desk. What do you guys think about the open culet? That’s what’s keeping me from listening to the angel on my shoulder saying YOLO while the other angel says Not today! LOL

For more info, the stone is GIA certified, F VS1, 3.15 ct measuring 9.74 x 8.66 x 4.63, compared to my 4.01 ct Asscher measuring 8.94 x 8.53 x 6.02.

So it faces up larger and is almost a ct lighter? I can't imagine it will have exceptional performance but maybe yours is over-deep? What "should" an Asscher be? I would not buy it just for the cute open culet.

IMHO, I am not a fan of an open culet. I find them to be distracting and look like a black hole. Especially in an Asscher cut.

I’m actually not a fan of the open culet, which is my hesitation. I haven’t seen it in person yet to see what it looks like. I think I’ll know for sure when I see it in person.

PS, my Asscher is probably more deep-bottomed than she should be but she looks good.

Only in an OEC for me.

I like to see windmills in true Asscher cuts when the side measurements are identical.

Don't have an Asscher cut diamond as I prefer emerald cuts in diamonds, however, I have 2 Asscher cut Coloured Stones.

DK :))

I love the look of this stone. As @LilAlex mentioned, the face up in comparison to your Asscher is concerning. At a 50% depth, you might have to cup it so it has better light return.

I usually like open cutlets but I like them a bit smaller/narrower than that on a step cut stone.

I don’t think a culet works for this cut, of course if you decide you love it then….

Thanks for the thoughts. I’ll post back what I think it looks like in person when I go see it this week. I think it would be really hard to give up my current Asscher unless I’m blown away!
