I spoke with Mark Morrel today. He said he reccomeds not to do the pave all the way around for two reasons.

1. He said the ring can never be resized.

2. He said it is likely to get damage on the back half of it.

Problem is the Pave looks so good all the way around and that was the look that I envision. What should I do. I need to let him know today.

I would do it *almost* all the way around, for the very reasons Mark listed....honestly, a few millimeters at the very back of the shank aren''t going to be apparent and it will still look like it goes all the way around.

(That''s my $0.02 anyway....the other answer would be to get the pave all the way around but have the ring in a 1/4 or 1/2 size bigger than needed to allow for swelling, pregnancy, etc...and use sizing beads or a ring guard.)

It will look the same either way, however it is your ring do what you want...I think a three quater would be the perfect solution. Have you asked about that?

My new ring has three-sided micro pave three quarters of the way around the shank. There is a small area left at the bottom of the ring for sizing purposes and it takes the abuse when I knock my ring against something. I agree that a full eternity style is gorgeous, but in my opinion you really won''t notice much of a difference if you go three quarters of the way around and it does afford you some protection and the potential for sizing.

Mark is right!!! Why not do it 3/4 the way around that you you'd have the look of it going all the way around and be able to size the ring at a later date if necessary/ pregnancy ,weight gain etc...

mark does this everyday. i would heed his prudent advice

hmmm....

i have diamond eternity rings...

i have been able to get them sized 1/4 up (and they said maybe even 1/2 size)...

as for damage...i have had my e-ring for 3 years now and there has been no damage to it. what kind of damage exactly are we talking about here? if it''s diamonds falling out that makes sense, but how can the band get damaged by just having diamonds the rest of the way??

maybe it''s a miscommunication but i don''t understand that 2nd part.

bottom line, i say get what YOU WANT. vendors give their opinions which you should definitely take into account, but in the end do what you want and what you want to wear.

Mara,
Yours are prong set. His band will be pave so I think pave all the way around would be more likely to get damaged and how could you resize it if it were pave??? Is that possible to do with pave???

honestly, the only difference between prong set and pave is how the stones are held in. it's still diamonds all the way around the ring.

so again, unless the 'damage' is stones popping out, which i could understand on pave, then i don't see how the ring could get damaged if you went full way instead of 3/4 way. i would clarify what damage is. to me stones popping out isn't the ring getting damaged, that is something that can happen with any pave ring regardless of 3/4 or full.

as for re-sizing, the shop told me that any diamond eternity could be re-sized a slight amount, nothing like 1 full size...1/4 is a small amount but it was more than enough for me. there have been discussions on this in the past as well...i think on the last thread where 3/4 vs full was discussed.

I have heard even with pave 3/4 it''s still somewhat difficult to resize. I don''t know. I think go with what you want. People tried to talk me going with 3/4 on my eternity band but I wanted a full eterntiy so that''s what i did and I love it. I am also having another one-sided pave eternity band made. However, if Mark or Leon was doing my ring and suggested only going 3/4 I would probably listen to them. are you 110% sure about her size? and with my eternity band I went up just a touch in size due to the fact it can''t be sized.

Thanks all, yes I am sure that is her size. I think 3/4 is fine.
