I am very small framed and pretty small chested (my ribcage, under my bust, measures 26 inches, and my bust is 29-30 inches) at a 32b. Since trying on wedding dresses for the first time a couple weeks ago, I realized that I am going to need some... help... if you will, in the bust region. Wedding dresses don''t do anything to help me out in the size department and make me look smaller than I am.

Any tips? Those bra things they have you try on dresses with made me look pretty flat! Does anyone have a bra that they are wearing/did wear with their dress that helped out with this?

Here is my dress...

When you are getting the dress altered, you''ll start to notice a shape. I am flat chested, but a pushup bra and some excellent alterations, really played up my figure.

Push up bras, or having bra cups sewn into the dress could work. I''ve very small myself, but I had cups sewn in (also meant I didn''t have to worry about bra straps showing since the back was cut somewhat low), and I think it looked lovely.

I used a padded bodysuit-type bra, but bra cups also work well.

My friend had a similar problem and bought a sexy bustier to wear under her dress... It gave her a lot of extra boobage and also worked great as wedding lingerie...

I had cups sewn into my gown PLUS I wore a pretty heavy duty padded strapless bra. I was very happy with the results.

For my wedding, I wore one of those Nubras WITH a padded, strapless bra. The Nubras are expensive...70 from Nordstroms (or around that price). It worked really well and was comfortable!

ETA: Pretty dress!

Not that there''s anything wrong with being small-chested, but actually, you''re not. Someone with a 3-4 inch difference between their rib cage and their chest is actually a C or D cup,not a B cup. YOur correct bra size is something like 28C or D or 30 C or D--not 32B. The problem you are having is that bras with a small band size and large cup size are rare--for some reason manufacturers assume that anyone with under a 38 inch band size doesn''t need a bigger cup measurement. I have this problem, also being small framed (though not as tiny as you) and chesty.

The too small bra cup is probably squishing you in and making you look flat, when you''re not.

Try to go somewhere where they will fit you properly to the right size bra (I know these places are expensive and hard to find, but worth it). I also would suggest push-up, which is very helpful to ladies with larger chests (prevents droop as well as squish.) The FOH catalogue (they are also online) is somewhat sleazy but they are a god-send to chesty ladies as they seem to have every size bra, in a lot of different styles--I would point you to there, once you know your right size. the salesladies there, if you can find a B & M are helpful in fitting, also.

I had cups sewn into the dress... I also think that wearing a boustierre (sp?) would help. (If there is room under your dress)

Your dress is stunning!

I had a slightly padded bustier (Le Mystere) sewn into my gown, which helped.

I had cups sewn into my dress and I wore the super padded nubra, which is cheaper than the original for some reason. It''s really light weight and I hardly noticed it was on. Strapless bras that were low enough in the back did not work and it looked best with the cups and the nubra. I am a 32A on a good day so I needed all of the help I could get. The neckline on your dress will help as well! Below is a pic for reference! :)

Not trying to be a pain in the ass, but had to comment because I was just doing some research on this last week!!
The proper way to get your bra size is actually to measure your rib cage right below your boobs, then ADD 5 inches to that for your band size. That would make lilylover technically a 31 band size (she has to round up to 32).
Then, you measure your bustline. If your bust is a 1 inch bigger than your band size, you are an A. If it''s two inches bigger a B and so on.
Now, I don''t think this is entirely accurate all the time... My technical measurements add up to a 34A but 99% of the time a 34B fits me better.
Just thought I''d comment because I was just looking into this whole thing out of my own curiosity!

Lilylover, highly recommend they sew cups into your gorgeous dress.

Not to threadjack my own thread, but you're definitely correct! Those measurment calulators don't work for everyone either. According to them, I am a 32AA or something, but I am definitely not. I have gotten professionally fitted before, and I am technically a 30 C. However, most places don't carry that, so what I do is buy 32Bs and perform my own alterations on the band to make it small enough! What most people don't realize is that the smaller your band size number is, the smaller your breasts are as well. For example, a person that wears a 32B has smaller breasts than a person who wears a 34B. For each band size you go down, you're supposed to add a cup size.

......and now that I completely went off topic, haha.. thanks everyone for all the suggestions! Is getting cups sewn into your dress expensive?

Chicken cutlets, girl!

lilylover,

I have the exact same measurements as you. I don't have a wedding dress, but I recently wore a Nicole Miller dress with that same neck line.

I got a padded strapless pushup bra that really fit well, and than I got the dress altered. I actually learned a really important trick. You want the dress to be really fitted at the waist, that is the part that holds the dress up. I remember telling this to a friend who competed in one of the well known national beauty pageants and she said to me "you didn't know that???" Not sure why I would, but I do now.

For a wedding dress like that, I would consider a bustier, that might add more contrast to the waist and bust, but alterations are going to be key.

BTW, very pretty dress. I think you are going to look stunning.

ETA: I went to one of those "bra fit places" last week. They asked me what bra I was wearing, I told them a 32A and they said "honey you are not a 32A." Like I don't know that??????? They than told me (without even fitting me) I would need custom alterations on a bra. I am still considering if I want to go back or not. I feel like the store is geared towards larger women (even though it is supposed to be for everyone). They have tons of speciality sizes for larger busts, but nothing below 32A.

Ha, ha - that reminds me of when I had my measurements taken for my dress fitting. I said I was a 34A and the assistant said NO you're 30C - I was like "What! No wonder my strapless bras never stay up

but at least I now know I'm a C cup

I would suggest getting the new Wonderbra Ultima strapless bra - I hear it's really good or you could have some cups sewn into your dress.

Again I know nothing about alterations to help in the boobies department (though I understand your pain) I just want to say your dress is lovely.

Beautiful dress! I also had a casablanca, getting the padded cups sewn in worked great as I didn''t want to risk a bra showing, or wear much underneath. Your alterations person will know exactly what to do. Mine wanted to sew in more boobage than I was comfortable with

Black Jade is right, you might very well be wearing the wrong size bra. Get thee to an upscale shop to get fitted, it is worth gold really (and you could just buy one there but know forever which brands fit you and what size). Macys and Bloomies, if you can find a woman who has been working the intimates section forever, could do the same for you. Good luck and have fun preparing for the wedding!

Beautiful dress! I had the same problem and had cups sewn into my dress to give me some extra padding and freedom of not having to wear a bra.
