Anyone else see this interview? Geez, what a freakin lunatic he''s turned into!! He''s being interviewed by Billy Bush about his Scientology and his views on the use of medications to treat depression and ADHD. He''s definately got a screw loose.

He called Brooke Shields "irresponsible" for writing her book about post partum depression and the use of medication to treat it. He believes that "there is no scientific evidence to support the use of psycotropic drugs" to treat ADHD and depression. HUH?

He says people call him at 2am for help. He says people 'thank him' for getting them off of their medications.

He was almost as manic as he was on Oprah.

Not a good career move to question those who need medication to treat their problems.

I say he's totally off his rocker. He's either on some medication or really needs to take some!!

Yep .....I saw that too. He''s bonkers! And after the whole Katie Holmes spectacles it makes him seem weirder.

I bet Brooke Shields is non too happy with him after he said she was misguided for taking prescriptions for post natal depression. Apparently she should have used vitamins!

He came across as very arrogant at times. It seems very hypocritical to me that he preaches of scientology and living a pure life and yet he is two time divorced and had a rift with his late father. Interesting to see him judging others so openly. I guess the scientology ethic of "cleansing" means he can just erase any negativity and continue to do what he wants.

Apologies to any scientologists......but I think it''s a load of tosh devised by a bad science fiction writer.

VERY ARROGANT! Uggh! I used to like him too! I honestly think he''s in the depths of HIS OWN mental illness. Hey Tom, try the GNC Men''s Ultra Mega vitamins--my DH swears by them!

Serious ugh. Leaving out all of the scientology and deeply-closeted creepiness, I found it REALLY tacky of him to malign Brooke Shields' career. I mean, of course he's beyond contempt for publicly questioning her mental health choices which are none of his business, but did you guys read about where he talked about "where has her career gone?"

WTF!!! Perhaps she's not a 20million a picture opener like he is (and uh, Tom? keep talking and see how long that lasts)-- but it's not like she's a washed-up has-been either. So she had a mediocre (but pretty successful) sitcom and isn't a MOVIE star anymore.....she had rave reviews in the Broadway revival Wonderful Town last year (I worked for the show--she was great) and is getting similar responses doing Chicago in London right now. I mean--what barometer for career sucess is Tom using? Uber-major-movie star? Speaking as an actor, I'm a lot more impressed with Shields' staying power over 3 decades, willingness to try new mediums (when have we seen Tom do 8 shows a week of live theatre?!), taking time off to get her degree at PRINCETON, and hell doing a national ad campaign for Ford (got to pay for the kids' college somehow, good for her!) than I am with the grinning, preening fame-whoring.

Seriously, the man has gone off the deep.

Ohhhh Myyyyyyyy he has completely lost it!!

It''s actually like watching a train derail right before your eyes. I saw him on Oprah and am with her in saying "he is gone"!! Yes, he is gone!!! I remember him doing press for a movie a couple of years ago and he had the NEW laugh and now I just don''t know what to think. What has happened to him?!

He will soon be on some of those medications that he soooo despises

So someone fill me in. Has Tom Cruise EVER done any live theater? Or is he incapable of keeping up with the demands of 8 shows a week? I think the mark of a really great actor is live theater where your mistakes are just out there. Heaven forbid that Tom not have a good camera angle or not be able to re-do a scene when he''s screwed it up.

I really like Brooke Shields, I think she''s very grounded, self confident and got a firm grip on reality. She doesn''t see the need to be a media whore like Tom. She intelligent (let''s see if Tom could last even one week at Princeton) and with her bringing her struggle with depression out into the open like she did, I feel like she''s doing other women a great service. Look at what happened with Andrea Yates. Could that tragedy have been prevented with the proper medication and treatment? There is absolutely NO shame in realizing you need help and then taking steps to get it. To the contrary--Brooke is to be commended in knowing what the best thing for her wellbeing and the wellbeing of her child and marriage was. To me it''s irresponsible of Dr. Tom to dispense medical advice on the treatment of mental illness. I hope no one out there forgoes professional treatment and listens to his crap about taking vitamins. To me that''s a lawsuit waiting to happen for Dr. Cruise.

I saw it and was really shocked at his behavior and what he had to say. It''s like he''s manic or something. I think HE is on something. What he said about Brooke Shields and perscritption meds was way off base IMHO. I really don''t like him one bit. I wasn''t a fan before and certainly am not one now. Also they ripped on him this morning with Katie Couric. I think his appearance on Oprah will really damage his career, will see.

. It's like he's manic or something.
Okay, I haven't seen ANY of these shows, but if he's acting like everyone is describing him, then sounds like he IS manic and NEEDS some medical intervention. Lithium? Labotomy?

Edited to ADD - can someone post IF they hear of Tom being on another show? I'd like to watch him in action. . .lol!

In US Weekly they did a breakdown of his BIZARRE behavior on Oprah...the body language ''expert'' said that his behavior with jumping on the couches was ''juvenile'' and does not speak of ''mature love''. She also said that Risky Business pose said ''ha ha america you are buying it'' and that when Tom grabbed Katie to bring her out that he handled her forcefully like a prop or toy and that she seemed very uncomfortable and seemed to feel more comfortable with Oprah than with Tom.

It also talked about the rumor that she was not his ''first choice'' and that an insider said that he is trying to appeal to younger audiences and that is what this is all about. Apparently Jessica Alba was his first choice but she turned him down, he considered Lindsay Lohan but deemed her ''wild and uncontrollable'' and Katie was his 5th choice. Ouch!

Kelly Preston (Scientology strikes again) has also been campaigning against using Ritalin and other drugs for ADHD. I agree with her that there are a lot of overmedicated kids, but I dont'' think all people being treated should be taken off the medication. I know several kids on ritalin (neighbors and through church) who really just need to be told no and disciplined sometimes. She has called into Sean Hannity and apparently has been talking and testifying to FL state representatives. This whole medication thing seems to be a scientology issue right now. What does TC think that post partum depression is? It''s mostly hormones that are way out of whack as well as dealing with a new baby and exhaustion. Vitamins will not fix that. Scientology is an interesting name for the cult that it is. They do some weird things to "cleanse" themselves. Several celebrities have said it helped them get off drugs and clean up their act. They''re a pretty secretive organization unless you are a member. Even L Ron Hubbard''s books dont'' tell it all. I see it more as a lack of religion or faith. They seem to be hung up on total self-reliance and that only Scientology can help you.

Well calling it the "Church" of Scientology is definately misleading since the church really has nothing to do with any sort of religion. They call themselves a "church" to get tax exempt status from the government. Since they are supported entirely by private donations (like a regular church is) they were able to apply for and receive the status. Scientology is really more of a lifestyle philosophy.

As far as drugs to treat ADD/ADHD, one of my dearest friends struggled her entire life with school, and jobs and even relationships until she was diagnosed with adult ADD about five years ago. Her mom commented to me once that of her 10 kids, my friend was the one who could never sit still, was constantly into something. She tried all kinds of therapy, biofeedback, several learning and organizational workshops. Finally, her doctor suggested medication as an experiment. She says her life has completely turned around with the medication. She takes Strattera and swears it''s a miracle drug. I can defiantely see a difference in her too and she seems so much happier now that she can focus. I think Tom Cruise would have to pry her pills from her cold dead hands!!

One of my friends has her son on Strattera and it's also helped him immensely. There's a diet (feingold's) that's suppose to be beneficial to children with ADHD but it's unrealisitic to keep kids on such a strict diet. They WILL cheat, therefore the diet won't work, since even a tiny trace of additives like certain red food dyes can cause a child to react for couple of days afterward. . . another friend of mine is a teacher, and said one student was kept off red dye #4 or #40 (can't remember which) and he's turned from a monster to an angel (so I guess that SOME kids can be helped). . .I think this child is also on an adhd med.

I still want to see T. Cruise in action. This all sounds so funny!

One of my relatives is always trying to convert me to her religion (she's VERY pushy). . . I think I'm going to pretend to be a scientologist just to mess with her

i get so tired of celebrities and their "holier-than-thou" attitudes where they think their opinions on politics, science, religion and life are gospel for us "meatloaf and potatoes" middle Americans to follow! ugh

OOOHHHH I couldn''t agree more Punch!!!!!!!! Who do they think they are??? Just because they manage to get into the lime light, all of a sudden their opinion on EVERYTHING is supposed to carry greater weight than anyone elses. I do not even want to hear their opinion on politics, religion, mental health...
29.gif
Just stick to your acting job Tom Cruise (and other actors!) and don''t worry your pretty little heads about the rest of us, we can make up our own minds about our real life personal issues!

Once a celebrity makes a public statement of opinion, like TC made here, I am so turned off by the person, I no longer enjoy that person''s work. I do have enormous respect for the actors who remain silent in their personal opinions and do not use their celebrity to cram their opinions and lifestyles down everyone elses throats!

Wow, maybe that''s why when Oprah asked Tom how they met and what he liked about Katie, he seemed so incredibly inarticulate! All he could do was laugh and smirk and give kind of lame answers. Fifth choice! That''s really sad if it''s true. She apparently grew up dreaming of marrying Tom Cruise, but what a way to end up with him! Good for Jessica for shooting him down.

I won''t even get started on his comments about antidepressants and postpartum depression. Jerk!

Perfectly expressed, Icelady! I feel the same way..I used to like Tom Cruise but he's really gotten obnoxious. Now, he irritates me. I read all the rags on vacation and there was a lot of this story (I didn'tsee any TV shows with him but I read a lot about it), and I just kept thinking, "What is wrong with these people?"

Sometimes, I think these celebrities with all this money and all this fame and hoopla just don't know what to do next and have to "invent" stuff in thir lives. They all perspective and sense of reality.

I think he must be brain washed by the church of scientology.

Oh my gosh! I saw that Oprah interview and I was thinking the same things you guys thought. What the heck was he doing??!! Looked like someone "acting" like they were in puppy love, but it wasn''t too convincing. He looked like a 12 year old kid. Very weird. I''m shocked to hear about his attacks on Brooke Shields. She has already helped numerous women by telling her story.

As far as scientology goes, to each his own, but it scares the heck out of me!! There are several Scientology centers here in Los Angeles. The people who work in the centers all dress like very conservative airline stewardesses and stewards. They are all in uniform, and they walk around the streets together in groups and they are pretty defensive and hostile toward outsiders. I had a friend who temporarily joined "the church." They had her go stay at the center for a few weeks. She went through this detox/ education program where she was basically fasting, taking their "supplements" (which were insanely expensive), doing sweat sessions in a sauna, and going to their classes. Apparently, those are typical techniques of brain washing. "The church" also takes a percentage of your income. The higher up you go, the more you pay. My friend was not making much money when she went into the church, but they convinced her to max out her credit (get the money any way you can) because if she "puts money out, then it will come back to her many times over." They are also known for arranged marriage or relationships. They have many very influential members, and it is a very secretive and tight knit group.

I had a theology teacher in college who told us an interesting story. He met this man many years ago who was a science fiction geek and a bit of a grifter. He told my teacher that the absolute most lucrative business in the wold was religion. He said that if you want to amass a large fortune, you should start a religion. That man''s name was L. Ron Hubbard.

If it works for you, great, but keep that crap away from me!!!

Can''t verify these websites, but thought they were interesting:

He he I am enjoying reading these...though he wasnt the youngest eagle scout ever. That man served in the Air Force.
2.gif
I wonder if anyone what he tells people is true?

What I found interesting at the clambake website is that L. Ron Hubbard was diagnosed to be a paranoid schizophrenic and was put in a mental hospital. That's where his intense hatred of all thing psychiatric came from.

I'm always amazed at the Hollywood stars who are Scientologists. My DH jokes that L. Ron Hubbard was really the devil and that those movie stars sold their souls for fame and fortune............
11.gif
It is kind of weird that John Travolta and Tom Cruise didn't get mega famous until they became Scientologists.

Ok Pearcrazy...I had to post this snippet for you from Brooke Shields in response to Tom Cruise saying she shood take vitamins for post natal depression.

Shields didn''t take kindly to the megastar''s One-a-Day advice. "Tom Cruise''s comments are irresponsible and dangerous," she said last week (via the London Times). "Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women who are experiencing postpartum depression decide what treatment options are best for them."

Doesn''t Katie have any friends to stage an intervention? They have to see what''s going on here.

In and of itself, on that Oprah episode, he just seems like he''s lost it (or is incredibly over-acting).

But, when you add in the comments on Access Hollywood about "caring about all of us", disparaging Brooke Shields (he may be successful as an actor but as a person, he''s not worthy to tie her shoes!), and minimizing PPD (I can remember at least two PPD suicides in my city in recent memory), I think the guy is close to a full-fledged break-down.

Maybe that could be the best thing for him. Mariah seems to be doing ok.........

(Is it me? All I can think of when I watch those clips of him on these shows is Mariah on TRL last year?)

You know, this almost makes too much sense....

Yeah, but I''ve loved John Travolta since I was a little girl and he was in Grease...and I vaguely remember my mom loving him when he was Vinnie Barbarino in Welcome Back Carter! He always seems like such a perfect gentleman and a nice man! And, I love to watch him dance...

On the other hand Tom Cruise is just soooo creepy! I concur with whoever said they thought he was gay!

Oh....and I''m sure he thinks that he''s straight now because he took the right vitamins!

Tawn -

Sorry, but:

Tom Cruise = John Travolta.

The beliefs are the same. It''s what their church professes. No matter how well they dance....... (You know what they say about guys who dance well.....)

You and your mom can think he''s cute, but don''t kid yourselves - they''re both full of crap.

And it''s so nice that you are sure Tom (as opposed to Travolta) is gay because he''s creepy - can you say "homophobic"?

Tom may have suffered from" Post Part Em" depression, he''s been divorced twice.

Marcus...

I think Tom Cruise is creepy just because I think he is...
I like John Travolta just because I do...

I personally could care less which religion they subscribe to, or which gender they choose to sleep with! I don''t base my like/dislike of either of them on either basis.

I did however agree with the *opinion* which someone on this thread expressed, that they believed he was gay and this Katie Holmes romance is a publicity stunt! I think Tom Cruise is creepy whether he''s straight or he''s gay!

Hope I cleared that up for you!

Off of the subject, but I watched the preview for "War of the Worlds" and I have seen the posters. In big letters, it proclaims "TOM CRUISE" and then under his name, the film title. So, where are the credits for Tim Robbins (an Oscar winner) and Dakota Fanning (an Oscar nominee)? Nowhere to be found! What, aren''t Robbins and Fanning good enough to be credited next to Cruise''s name? Both Robbins and Fanning are remarkable actors. Moreover, I personally think that Robbins is more talented than Cruise. I personally find this offensive and I, too, think that Cruise''s ego is getting too big.

John

Apparently Tom must have earned his M.D. when we weren''t looking, b/c he was just full of BRILLIANTLY enlightening information on the today show this morning:

"NEW YORK - Tom Cruise criticized NBC "Today" show interviewer Matt Lauer on Friday when Lauer mentioned Cruise''s earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants. Cruise told Lauer he didn''t know what he was talking about. "You don''t know the history of psychiatry. I do," Cruise said.

The interview became more heated when Lauer, who said he knew people who had been helped by the attention-deficit disorder drug Ritalin, asked Cruise about the effects of the drug.

"Matt, Matt, you don''t even — you''re glib," Cruise responded. "You don''t even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That''s what I''ve done."

Honestly?? What a prick.
