this is turning out to be quite the week. First he gets serious about settings and starts talking to PS people. Then he calls Wink (I think he called wink, he may do it on monday)

So that''s just the engagement madness.....

I got accepted to an Oxford MPhil program yesterday, and we got word that he has his final Thouron scholarship interview TOMMMORROW. It''s a 13-*hour* interview with you competitors and a panel of people. I''m so glad I only made it to the second-to-last round of this scholarship...I mean, the money would have been great, but having to pretend we weren''t dating for 13 hours as well as dealing with the interview and trying to compete against everyone else...blech.

(The Thouron is a school specific award that funds 2 ys of study in the UK. So mucho moolah. Little scary just how much money the family dishes out every year.)

(The Oxford acceptance was cool, but I can''t go unless the fund me. The same people who put me through undergrad offered to pay but I told them no..we''ll see)

I''m dying here! Too many *&%! uncertainties, ladies....what on earth am I doing with my life next year....but more importantly (

), what and when will the ring look like???

My heavens!

I''d been thinking that you and FF might be among the sweetest couples on PS...turns out you may be among the brainiest, too!

Good luck to flyfisher tomorrow!

awwww, thanks :-)

How cool! Exciting and scary at the same time, huh? I''ve never heard of a thirteen hour interview! Wow! Good luck!

Congrats to you and good luck to flyfisher!!!

Ugh....I am going CRAZy here! I cleaned the kitchen so he doesn''t have to deal with it when he gets home, I am *trying* to get work done but I am wondering what is happening....ah!

So, I want him to win this bc it will make him so happy....but I also won''t see him for a year and a half. The closest I would be is Morocco with him in Oxford or Cambridge.

And I feel like maybe I should make cookies or bread for him to eat when he gets back even though they have dinner, but then the kitchen won''t be as clean, and what if he doesn''t win and is really depressed?

Actually, he won''t know when he gets home and will probably be too nervous to eat until they email the results at midnight. Ack, guess who is staying up.

Gah this is nervewracking!

4 more hours, ladies!

Cookies make people feel better. Well, ok, they make me feel better at least. And it''ll give you something to do while you''re waiting. So making them will make you feel better.

By all means, do make cookies. Baking always makes me feels good!!

Me too! I made Red Velvet cupcakes with vanilla icing today (box & can, ladies, don''t get any KRAZZZIE ideas about my domesticity). They were awesome & easy. I love a good cupcake.

Good luck, Rainbowtrout & Fly Fisher!!!!

Hi Rainbow.

I''m sorry this is such a stressful time for you! But it sounds like you are being a very supportive girlfriend and you guys have a great relationship -- you both make sure to look out for the others interests and goals and dreams (including the school that is required), while staying true to your own. I have no doubt your relationship will work out even if you''re apart next year. Believe me, distance most definitely makes the heart grow fonder.

I''ve been with my boyfriend for almost 7 years (2 years in the same town, the last 5 living across the country), and while its been really difficult at times, we''ve made it through and I think we''re close to engagement. We both went through a lot of grad school (which I''m still going through!) and while many of our friends thought we were crazy, or said they could never do long distance like us.....well we''re still very happy with each other and even more happy about starting our lives together because we both pursued the schooling we wanted. I know if I hadn''t gone to my current program because I wanted to be with him, I''d resent him down the line when I didn''t fully acheive my career goals.

By the way....are you sure you wouldn''t feel OK accepting funding for Oxford from the people who funded undergrad? They probably genuinely want to help, otherwise they wouldn''t have offered. It just sounds like such a great opportunity to be at Oxford with your BF (soon to be fiance!), and both go to your dream schools at the same time. Think about it at least!

hmmmm...cardamom cookies it is! I am usually a cake/pie/souffle girl, and have never made non-drop cookies (i.e., non oatmeal raisin or tollhouse) so we will see how these turn out.

Hopefully he will like them...

Thanks for the support everybody :-)

Elle: I am going to talk to the people (I call them my grandparents actually, even though they aren''t...its complicated, I''ve known them forever and they sort of adopted me) seriously when I have all my options for next year on the table. I just have never taken that much money from ANYONE, and am having a hard time imagining it...

Anyway, there is still the chance I will get funding from Oxford. They are actually not my first choice, as silly as that sounds...my 1st choice is a Fulbright to Rabat for a year to do rsrch, second choice the MPhil, third choice straight to grad school...

OK, cookies!

Good luck, Rainbowtrout & Fly Fisher!!!!

ME TOO! Last night I just baked a yellow cake and chocolate frosting. It''s my favorite cake and I''ve eaten so much of it today! oops

My family always wonders how I can eat all I do and not see any change in my figure.... I just know someday I''ll have to watch it, but for today I''m baking my cake and eating it too!

So have fun baking your cookies and good luck to you and Flyfisher!

Hi again Rainbow.

My apologies for pushing the funding issue -- I thought you were referring to a scholarship foundation or a local educational fund, not actual individuals who offered to pay out of pocket.
1.gif
I understand that''s a difficult situation and difficult to accept, even if they truly want you to have the money. I am sure that once you and your BF figure out the best options for your schooling next year you''ll find a way to finance them.

it''s no problem..like I said, it''s an unusual situation, but a good one. Most of my money for undergrad didn''t come from them, but at the same time they paid the upfront money that kept me from working way too many hours during school.

It''ll work out.

BTW, grinding cardamom from pods=much work!

it would work out quite well if you could both be in the UK for next year. what an experience!

Congratulations and I hope it all goes well

Oxford is one of our most beautiful cities and is steeped in history and the university buildings are awe inspiring. Also they have the most wonderful traditions, one of them the annual boat race with their arch rivals Cambridge, so it is nice to think of you maybe cheering them on next year! I really hope you can get there, it would be a fantastic experience for you both.

OK, apology in advance to those of you with large incomes..

I HATE RICH PEOPLE!!!!

Agggggh. The committe of wealthy donors decided a week ago who they were giving the awards to--and have just sat on the information bc they decided to go on a vacation to Florida in their private jet. Aside from the fact that I just want to know for the results for planning reasons and to know what he is doing, he hasn''t done any of the stuff on the ring he had planned, just been too nervous about the results. And I can''t say anything about it bc it would just be too obnoxious (the willpower to ask him if he called, emailed or PM-ed Wink like he told me he would on last Thursday is slowly eroding...hope I can hold out until he knows the result!)

On the upside of life, my Fulbright app got to the finalist stage, and apparently oxford is sending funding information "presently," whatever the heck that means in british-speak.
