Hi, all! I’ve enjoyed lurking here and thank you all for the eye candy. I’ve been a little obsessed the last couple of weeks, as my husband asked if I’d like to update my ring for our 10th anniversary next March and now it’s the only thing I can think about! We’ve decided to do lab diamonds, but my predicament is size.

I currently have a three stone e-ring with approx .22 / .4 / .22 carats. With the past/present/future symbolism of three stones, I want to move my current .4 center stone to be my new left (“past”) stone, add a matching .4 on the other side, and then get a bigger center stone.

The challenge is that I have very long, slender fingers (ring size 4) and while I love bling, the worst thing would be to get a stone too big for my hand and have it look gaudy. I don’t want to be self-conscious about it. So I’d love opinions on how the various sizes look on my hand!

Hello and welcome to PriceScope, DiamondsAF!

Have you thought about keeping your current ring as is and getting a new LGD solitaire ring for the milestone upgrade?

You'll want to start a new thread over in the MMD/LGD section of the forum and, whichever route you choose, we'll help you search out the best performing diamonds to pick from, no matter what your budget is.

How exciting! First, none of them look gaudy and so it becomes a matter of taste.
My perspective is a little different, and probably one of very few that won't say go as big as you can. I have parameters that I like to keep to make my brain happy. Looking at your examples, my eye keeps going to the 1ct center on your hand- there is nice spread and proportion between your hand and the stones. To me it is the size that is most harmonious. I can't wait to read your journey over on the LGD thread and see what sings to you. It's going to be amazing!

Thank you! I like the idea of having just the 1 ring, but that being said I will definitely be posting for advice in the MMD/LGD section. I’ve been fairly anxious about the nitty gritty details as far as table size, depth, etc so I would love advice on that!

Thank you! I agree that the 1 carat dimensions probably look best on my hand. But then again I know DSS is a real thing so who knows whether I would wish I’d gone bigger! Either way - this is a good conundrum to have :)

If possible, you could buy from a vendor with a nice upgrade policy in case that does happens!

I also have long thin fingers. I am a size 4 (but with arthritis my knuckle is now 4.25) and I wear 2.5 carats. It's seriously personal preference. I love the 1.5 on you honestly. Would you consider getting a CZ and wearing it for a week or 2 to see how you feel? Trust me, you get used to the size very quickly! LOL Its harder to find CZ rings in a size 4 but you can find them! I bought a toi et moi ring from this company and used a ring sizer just to wear for fun, they have 4.5 and they're nice, here's a 2 carat one for example

Thank you! I’m glad to know you don’t think a 1.5 looks wrong on me. I tried ordering a 1.5 cheapo ring from Amazon for size but it’s the same as a smaller carat I ordered, so I may try that 1.5 you listed above. Thanks again!

I really like the 1.5 on you! The 1.2 looks nice too. I don't think either looks too big or ostentatious.

Thank you! That’s really nice to hear. I had practically ruled out the 1.5 before I came to this forum but you all have me rethinking it!

Hi @DiamondsAF, I think that is hard to visualize what a larger center stone would look like if you order solitaires…..and I think your size 4 can carry off a 2+ carat if you set it alone. Here is a visual of my 2 rings…: 3-stone is .5-1.81-.5 total 2.81ct vs my 2.80ct OEC solitaire.

I think my smaller 3-stone holds its own and sometimes looks blingier than the solitaire. FYI, my ring size is 5.5.

Thank you! The rings I ordered from Amazon are all 3-stones. I definitely need exact visuals! I adore the ratio of your 3-stone. I think you’re right that I could carry off a 2 carat solitaire but unsure how much of a center I can carry with .4 carats on either side…

Hi @DiamondsAF -
I have a 0.4 side 1.3 center ring (elongated cushions from @Rhino) on a size 4
I think the elongated cut helps keep the stones from spreading too wide across the top of the finger. You can just about see the band on either side and it is very comfortable (no prongs poking the other fingers while also being low set).
You could consider an elongated shape in the center if you’re not set on round? Proportion-wise, it’s a bit bigger than I had intended but I love it nonetheless!

Your ring is lovely! And it looks perfect on your hand. I tried on a couple of ovals but I keep being drawn back to the round for myself. Kind of a shame since I could fit more oval on my finger then round haha.

The 1.5ct proportions and the 1ct look the best to me, but it could be that the side stones in the 1.2ct are what's making that one look wonky.

Regardless: none of them look too big or gaudy to me. :)

Thank you! That’s good to hear! And yeah when I looked at the pic after we left the jeweler, I wished we’d gotten the stones set in there properly *facepalm*

Surprisingly, my eye goes to the 1 ct but they really do all look great!

I prefer the 1.5. It looks more proportional stone wise. The others look too close in size. Go big. If you change your mind you will have a BIG solitaire.

Thank you! I agree the .5 - 1.5 - .5 has good proportions. Great point about having a nice solitaire!

IMHO the one-carat looks traditional (in a good way) so if you would like a blingy look, go for the 1.2 or 1.5.

Agree on getting a try-on ring. When I was thinking about upgrading a 6.7mm diamond earlier this year, I got a moissanite from Amazon and am so glad I did because I did not like the bigger size. Nothing beats seeing the size on your finger.

Thank you! I’m definitely good with being just a touch blingier than traditional so that’s really helpful feedback.

This is Pricescope, there’s no such thing as too big  They all look good on your lovely slender finger.

Sounded like that’s what you were looking for so I hope you go big and have fun. :)
