I am curious.. how many grams (of platinum) is "too heavy" for a ladies wedding set? I want something substantial, but don''t want to be "weighed down". I''m not a little skinny girl either (size 8 ring). What do you think?

If your man can afford platinum then get it! You''ll be fine!

First, let me say that I do love the weighty feel of platinum. That''s what I got because I did not want the maintenance of rhodium plating white gold. But, I will say that my set is quite weighty, and it does sometimes annoy me when I''m trying to type at the computer. I have to take my rings off for that. Luckily I work from my house, so I can just take them off and put them in a little holder to stare at while I work -- heehee

.

My engagement ring alone weighs 15.54 grams!!!! The wedding ring is only 4 grams, so I can leave that on. Together they weigh nearly 20 grams so you can see why that would get annoying. My husband jokes that the muscle in my left arm is getting bigger.

I have no idea what the weight of my platinum e-ring and wedding ring are, but I love always "feeling" that they''re on.

I would say there is no particular limit for the rings being too heavy or too light. Heck, you have to take into account the metal and how big and heavy your diamonds and/or other gemstones are as well.

I have a 3 ring platinum set that I can mix and match and I can definitely tell that I have rings on even when I am wearing 1. I do love my rings. But that said, I would not say that I am a big fan of feeling the weight, and maybe if I change sets I would consider gold instead because of it. MANY folks here will tell you that they just love the heft of platinum. You could always hang out in a local B&M and try on a bunch to get a feeling for it.

Wow -- 15 grams!!! That really is heavy!!!

I like how heavy my ring is because I can FEEL it on my hand and if I don''t then I freak out...but I am used to it. It''s not like an anchor by any means but when I drop it into someone''s hands they go WOAH...I think that my e-ring is heavier than my w-ring...but not positive. Don''t know if the big stone makes alot of weight difference.

But I like the weight! And I''m not a small girl either.

My set is platinum and I love the weight of it. It feels great, not too heavy at all. I have no clue what the gram weight is, never thought to ask.

I was just thinking about this same question recently but as it applies to eternity bands. My wedding ring set weighs 14.5 grams (I just realized my appraisal doc by Nancy Stacy says both my e-ring & wedding band weigh 14.5 grams and I don''t think that''s right. :) I''ve been looking at getting an eternity band to wear on the days where I don''t feel like wearing my wedding set - i.e. days when I''ll be going to the gym or going someplace where I want to be a little understated when it comes to my wedding ring. So what''s the average weight for eternity bands ... I would think they would be fairly light but thought I would ask folks.

Thx!

Betty

The weights I posted were straight from my appraisal too. My wedding ring is an eternity band and only weighs 4 grams. It is very light and comfortable. It my e-ring that is the heavy one. Then when I put the 2 together, it comes to the 19.54 grams total.

I have to dig out my appraisal to see how much my ring weighs but there is a healthy amount of PLT in its design. I was very surprised how heavy it was (compared to a WG ring I have) when I first put it on but now I don''t even notice it. I really don''t think you should worry about the weight

of course Paris Hilton complained about her 24ct so maybe it is a common issure.

I think my w-band weighs 5.3 grams and my e-ring is 6.1 grams, so total of 11.4 grams of platinum. I don''t know if that is heavy or not, since I haven''t had the chance to wear them together yet! Still waiting for the e-ring. But when I showed my w-band to my sister, she was like, "Whoa, this is heavy." I don''t think it''s heavy though.
