Totally shocked...

Hello! I just wanted to share with all the ladies who were SO helpful to me some weeks back when things got rocky between my boyfriend and me...I can''t believe it--but I am engaged to my best friend as of Friday night!

It was a total shock, and I am so happy we talked so in depth about everything--apparently, all his talk about not wanting to spend so much on a piece of jewelry and all that was just to fool me! I don''t have much time now, but I am just thrilled and so thankful that you were all so sweet to me when I was freaking out so much. Thank you all for your sweet posts!! I really appreciate it--I think all the talking about the ring that my SO and I did helped a LOT, ultimately. He wasn''t reluctant at all when the time came to buy the ring and is so thrilled that I am happy.

Compared to Choro72''s story or MissErin''s, or really any of your great stories, mine is very simple...and even though your stories are AMAZING and SO romantic and sweet, I was just as thrilled with mine:

My last day of my internship was on Friday, and it was the most GLORIOUS day in NY (the weather report literally said "abundant sunshine"--haha!), so my BF decided to meet me at my office and walk with me downtown to go to a celebratory dinner at our favorite French restaurant. (We live in Queens and work/go to school in Manhattan, but we rarely go out in Manhattan, so this was kind of special.)

We walked downtown and stopped at a random bar on the way where the doors and all were open so it was almost like al fresco. We just started talking about how things are really looking up for us--he is up for his second promotion in under two years, my internship may turn into a full-time job this summer, and I am graduating from law school...and things between us (aside from the difficulty we had talking about the ring) have been just awesome. Then the conversation sort of veered off, and we started talking about sports...and all of a sudden, his eyes welled up with tears. I was so worried--he NEVER cries!! I was like, "what''s wrong?!" and was freaking out. He said, "don''t worry--it''s nothing...I just have to make a phone call," and started rifling through his bag...and out came the ring box!! I don''t remember exactly what happened after that, but he put the ring on my finger and I couldn''t even look at it at first, because I couldn''t take my eyes off him. I was just floored; I had absolutely NO idea it would happen now, even though I totally wanted it to!

The bar was practically empty, but we were kind of quiet about the whole thing, so the only person who noticed was the bartender, who looked at my ring, congratulated us and brought us two more drinks! haha! We walked down to our favorite, romantic restaurant and just talked for hours about how excited we both were to spend our lives together.

I always imagined that I would cry when he proposed-but I didn''t shed a single tear (still haven''t). I just haven''t stopped smiling. I always thought I''d want to get on the phone immediately and tell everyone I knew, but at that moment, I just wanted to be with him and for us to just enjoy each other. Although I love my ring and it soooo far exceeded any expectation I''ve ever had, this has put things into even better perspective for me; I am going to marry my best friend in the world, and I could not be more thrilled.

He planned out the timing perfectly--he went ring shopping with my mom last Monday (they knew exactly what I wanted), and it all happened very quickly after that. He wanted to talk to my dad before he got the ring, but it turned out that they couldn''t arrange a meeting before he did get the ring, so they had a two-hour lunch on Thursday (which happened to be only a BLOCK away from where I was having lunch at the exact same time, coincidentally!!)...and my BF wanted me to have the ring before we went to my parents'' house on Saturday (Passover), so I could show it off to my family and share my excitement. So on Saturday, we went to his parents'' house (20 minutes from where my folks live), had champagne, then surprised his grandmother (she didn''t know we had gotten engaged!), then went to my parents'' for Passover, then my brother, my BF and I went to his sister''s house and celebrated with his sister and brother-in-law until about 6am. It was just amazing and exciting and AWESOME.
