I''m up in the air about new ring that I want to have made it''s going to be a present to me for finsihing my degree yay! I won''t be graduating till next May boo

so I have a decent amount of time to make up my mind/save money to fund my project. I really love the look of spessarite and crome tourmaline (love that deep rich green and tasavorite is wayyy out of my budget these days). I will wear this ring almost daily and I have heard people say that it is crazy to set tourmaline in a ring that will be worn that much but I can learn to be carefull and remove it when showering, excercising, sleeping, boxing...just kidding

. I suppose my question really comes down to this - is there that much of a difference between torumaline and garnet? I know many here have garnet erings and excercise caution can I excercise the same and enjoy my tourmaline, or is it a bad idea that should be scraped.
thanks

It has the same hardness as garnet (6.5-7.5), and would need some care when worn daily, but so do rings with sapphires and diamonds. I would choose a setting that protects that stone, such as a bezel or cathedral, but as long as you''re cautious, I don''t see why not. Go for it!

As long as you are happy to baby it, and won''t be devastated if you have to get the odd re-polish/mini re-cut then I don''t see why not.

I wear my e-ring only when I''m out and doing safe things - ie work, shopping, seeing friends etc. As soon as I get home it comes off and goes in it''s box.

It''s also worth keeping a spare box in your bag - if I''m at work and have to do things like move boxes around etc I put it in the box so it''s safe.

Ditto to what everyone else said. I take of all my rings when I am doing anything that might get them dirty or where I might hit them on something. Your ring will be lovely and congratulations on graduating next May.

thanks for the congrats my education is a work in progress...I have twins and I am going back to school part time it''s a bit busy

Good on you. You really deserve your future ring. Congratulations in advance. What colour of tourmaline do you have in mind?

I wore a bezel-set tourmaline ring daily for 4 years. I''ve stopped wearing it, but the stone never chipped or got scratched during that time. So a daily wear tourmaline can be done!

I''m stuck on a really nice chrome green ( I confess I decided upon this color after seeing the numerous, beautiful green stone rings floating around here pokey...Pandora...veloraL....
Ps thanks for your congrats

Can anyone post some pics of good setting examples that will offer enough protection for a daily wear ring but not look like an armored tank?
Also. will a full bezel setting make my stone less brilliant by cutting off it''s exposure to light?
