I have read in various web sites about gem shows. I have read about

Hong Kong International Jewellery Show
Baselworld
Bangkok gem and jewelry fair
JCK shows
Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition
Tucson show (including AGTA Tucson and GJX)

BUT ,

Jewelry is a huge industry and i know there are many shows.some are trade only, some are open to public, some are a mixture of two.(like the Tucson show.i read some parts of the show are for trade people only and some are open to consumers)

1) Is there a web site/blog/book which has a list of all the shows and which categorizes what are the trade only shows and what are open to public?

2)are there any bloggers who go to these shows and post blog entries with loads of pics? :)

3)what are the gemstone blogs/sites you follow? i read

http://diamondsinthelibrary.com/
http://www.jewelsdujour.com/

I am from Sri Lanka.we have two gem shows. one is "facets" it's held in every September. the other one is called "Jewels" it's on December.both are open to general public.

thank you for any info. A friend of mine who knows that i am interested about gemstones asked me about shows held abroad and i realized i know very few details.that's why i thought of discussing here.

I do not have photos with me.sorry about that. I dont think it will be cost effective for a European to visit just for attending the show.there are only around 200 stalls ut there are many fine gems.but i did not see many "rare" gems. gems are a little cheap compared to the USA or European market though. if you are coming to see the gem show AND see the other attractions like beaches, ancient cities, forests etc then it's worth it. otherwise not very effective to come just for the show.. i don't know what the air ticket prices are but you can cover accommodation and food for 75USD per day. and 10 days is a decent time to cover the island.

here is the website of the facets show.there are some photos there.

I follow Vincent Pardieu's postings of trips into the ulu where he recounts the nitty gritty life of exploration and gem study in the field. If you love eye candy, you can follow Nomad on FB.

Hi,

I read gem dealers newletters. I received one from Leibish(dealer listed above)today. He talks about the shows he attended and gives comments on colored diamonds and gemstones. Today its a good read. I also check the newsletter of The" gem forcaster-Robert Genis. He puts out 4 newsletter a year and is a colored stone dealer and commentator.

I like these because I feel that they give a more accurate picture of the gem world than many of the dealers who come to this site. It difficult to be objective when your own livelihood is at stake.

Last evening I watched a TV show with the Graff Jewelry company showing their fifth avenue offices and out of this world jewels, many of the caliber that you have shown us. Graff says people are hoarding colored diamonds now. There is a shortage and people are responding to that. Please read the Leibish newsletter as it reflects the same sentiments, with a statement from Rappaport that tells us that white diamond demand and prices have fallen quite a bit. Of course we see none of that reflected in pricescope Rocky Talky.

I personally thank you for showing us exquisite jewelry, although I know any of it won't be mine.

I really do recommend the above to keep in touch with the colored stone markets.

Annette
