Hi everyone!

I happen to love my engagement ring but honestly I’ve been on a weird quest for a while to try to determine the cut of the diamond. I don’t know why it means so much to me I think I’m just very curious. My appraisal says “early American cut” and a few pricescopers have guessed transitional or early transitional but I’m wondering what a new batch of eyes think. The ring was my grandmothers and is 2.0 cts K color. Pictures attached

thank you!!!AD92EC2D-0053-4453-A208-8F7A857A70AD.jpeg676D8342-9DBB-475B-966F-BB8EF2191481.jpeg

i would say (early) transitional, too.

After the ww1 interruption of the diamond trade the diamond saw came into common use.
This resulted in a ton of experiments.
This diamond could be one of them.

I have a copy of the book "American Cut: The First 100 Years" by Al Gilbertson, G.G. I could not find anything using the term transitional cut. I'm sure @Karl_K is familiar with the book. Perhaps it is described but just not using the term transitional.

@Frumasring please post some photos of the side view. Very pretty mounting (and diamond band)... would love to see the side view!

Thanks headlight. I tried my best to get a few good pictures. Please excuse my lack of photo skill. 217F2B30-BF62-4A08-8DA9-174D38C5B22C.jpegF09DB67E-15D3-4615-99BF-67A086D74C04.jpeg1C5C48C3-71D2-4DF2-A386-5513D2837E66.jpeg

Nice profile and looks great with your beautiful diamond band. When things open up, definitely take it to a qualified jeweler or appraiser to get an assessment of its color, clarity, and cutting style... will be interesting to know!

Thanks! So I’ve had it approased(I’ve actually been married nearly 10 years). The center stone is 1.98cts K SI1. The side stones are about .15 ct each and I think G color. The ring was my grandmothers and everything between the baguettes is original setting. The shank is platinum and just had to be made bigger to fit me! The jeweler who did the work called it “early American” for the cut and called it good for polish. I’ve never heard of early American so I was confused.
Thanks for all of your input! I find this so interesting!

I see a diamond of near current proportions but shorter Lgf. 65%-70% [of course I would love to see the numbers], then, who knows when the stone was first & lastly cut! It may have been new from rough, or retouched when it was set in this ring.

A few updates with pics! Wondering if anyone else has additional thoughts on cutC64FD8EF-ADC8-4E60-99BC-8DA7C74DB01D.jpeg5F1F84D2-86B0-45A3-8E9D-F90268C67F17.jpeg

Wow, what a unique stone! It’s very pretty. Nothing else constructive to add!

But it is fun to see a unique cut!
