Since it''s been awhile since the last installment of Stephanie''s Silly Questions, I felt like I needed to ask one...

We are having our reception and ceremony in the same place (I''ll put up a wedding thread soon!) and I just got a quote for the transportation for leaving the venue and going to the hotel - $400!! For less than one hour of driving, this seems a little crazy. Granted it is a vintage car, but still it''s mind blowing.

Is this an accurate estimate? I know that limos are cheaper, but I just don''t like ''em. Are there other options? What are you doing??

We have the same problem, also don''t like limos. I''m not sure what we''ll do, but the price is ridiculous! I''d post on the knot local boards for suggestions for bargain vintage car rentals.

This is one of those areas you can totally splurge on if you want to, but you don''t have to.

My dad drove us in his car, a Buick something or other. He had it washed beforehand and it looked spiffy in the pics. And it is good that it was his car because my mom reports there is still lavender in the backseat from people throwing it in at us! I don''t regret not splurging on a get-away car. We have maybe 4 pictures of it and we were only in it for 20 minutes as my dad drove us to the hotel.

$400! Yowza!! Know anyone with a nice car? You could rent a luxury car from a regular old rental place I bet...but then someone would need to drive you. That''s a lotta money for 1/2 an hour!

Well, this is where I got this person''s name. And after asking around, he is the only one in town. And to top things off, I just found out that he is related to the people that own the venue! What?! They have a little wedding monopoly going on here!

I will say that he has some amazing cars - Jags, Rolls, Hudsons. And the vehicle, as I have read it, is ours for the night. So there isn''t any rush to get to the hotel.. But still I would only need it for that time unless he wants to drive people home!

And I don''t really have any friends that have these types of cars for use. FI''s family has an old Model T, but it''s not in working condition..

we had a vintage bentley pick us up from our reception and drop us off at our hotel and this was around our price as well.
we didn''t have any other transportation - no limos, no nothing so we splurged on the bentley for our exit.

And I have just realized that I read the email wrong. For the cars FI likes, it''s $500! Oy!

I decided I didn''t care about cars at all.

My father will drive me to the ceremony, reception is in the same place.

I told my photographer that if he even thought of posing on car bonnet or any other naff photos I would never speak to him again.

The hotel we are staying in is about 25 minutes away, so we''re just getting a taxi with our friends.

I could think of 100 things I would prefer to spend the money on.

But that''s just me....

I honestly don''t mind spending like $200 or $250. But $500! I still have to work out logistics, but we would be without a car unless someone checked into our hotel room early and left a car there for us the next day because check in isn''t until three or so (usually) and our photographer is meeting us at that time.. I have 9 months, I think I can work something else out.

our getaway car will be fi''s dutifully decorated audi, nice enough for us!

I would post on craigslist asking if for someone who owns a nice old car to give you a ride there for however much money you want to spend. Many people keep great old cars for showing and working on and the ones I know would be thrilled to be payed to drive them but also to have them be photographed.
Some nice hotels also have a few nicer cars for this purpose, have you talked to yours?

Great idea.

We also didn''t love limos but ended up using one to take us from our same site ceremony/reception to our hotel less than a mile away. It was $80 (Chicagoland, 4.5 yrs ago) and basically we got a getaway picture and a ride down the street out of it. We looked into renting something vintage here at the time and they were going for way more than what we paid for the limo. Unless you''re super into cars and the whole entrance/leaving thing, I wouldn''t worry about it too much or go overboard.

FABULOUS Idea. AND something I can put on John''s list of things to do for the wedding!!!

I really think that we are going to stick with a limo exit. Granted, I would love to have the vintage car, but I can spend $500 on something else... I thought very hard about renting a vintage car, but I don''t want to have to worry about someone at the reception driving us. And I would feel kinda weird having my father (or his father) drive us to our hotel.. Thanks for the input ladies!
