Im not generally a sentimental person but recently I’ve started working with a Life Coach to try to bring a greater level of mindfulness and awareness into my very busy and stressful life.

My career is my life and I absolutely love my job but I’d love to be able to bring the engagement and enthusiasm and focus I have at work into the rest of my life rather than be too burned out by the time I stop working to give my best to my family and friends. Im working on bringing more balance and harmony.

I want to work on a piece of jewellery that is meaningful to me, not just my usual magpie collector or investment based mentality.

It’s soon to be my 10 year anniversary at work and the logo of my company is a triangle. I also like the symbolism of the triangle and the spiritual symbolism representing the three elements of our being that need to be balanced such as Mind, Body, Spirit. The forward pointing triangle also represents flow and momentum and that’s one of the things I’m working on with my coach - to move forward and not feel bogged down and stuck in the same bad habits and patterns. There have also been negative triangles in my life in terms of relationship conflict that I’m still trying to overcome or be aware of.

I have bought a trillion diamond which i think is perfect for this project because it’s stereotypically “imperfect”. It’s a “low” colour (L) - but I actually prefer warm diamonds. It’s a “poor” cut (WAY too shallow) - but I love the fact that it’s shallow cut makes it look huge and it has so much character - notwithstanding a light leakage that would make most perfectionist PSers weep! It’s an included diamond (SI1) - but eye clean and beautiful despite its flaws.

So in my eyes this imperfect, flawed, misfit little diamond is actually perfect for this “keep forever” project.

Now I just need to think of how to set it. Trillion solitaires are quite uncommon so I haven’t found many examples.

I want to be able to wear it flush with my wedding band as an alternate engagement ring so I’d like something with quite a simple shank / band and also low on the finger but perhaps with a bit of glimmer to it - maybe a pave band or hidden halo. In fact something “hidden” on the basket would perhaps add additional meaning to the design.

It’s got a 10mm spread so a halo probably isn’t warranted.

I’m really leaning to a yellow gold bezel as I want to celebrate its colour not try to hide it.

All ideas would be most welcome.

I love the idea! If it is a cape coloured stone and a shallow cut I wonder if you would want to put a YG cup under the stone to really enhance the colour? I feel like it works particularly well with stones that are shallower and “leaky” and it makes them look beautifully yellow. I would love to do a yellow cup and then perhaps a thicker yellow carved bezel, if you don’t want to do the typical halo. I personally don’t like hidden halos and pave shanks because it can damage your WB.

Another thought for “simple sparkle” that I had was perhaps do a shank that is like 3 super thin bands together (they can be soldered together, I just mean that look. Like the Cartier trinity WB is, I posted a pic) and have the outer two bands be YG, with the inner band being pave WG.

That’s a really good idea about having the yellow gold shine through. I might not go for a full on cup only because trillions are so prone to going dull when they are dirty. But I definitely want some kind of gold “backing” even if filigree.

I like the idea of continuing the trilogy theme with the band too.

I was having a look through my melee box and I have these three tiny little garnets. Red, orange and green - demantoid and spess. Garnet is my birthstone. I was thinking of having them set in the basket somehow - one of each side representing health / growth (green), wealth / prosperity (red - also colour of my company logo) and spirituality / enlightenment (saffron). I could even have them set into the underside of the band I guess.

You could set the red and green on either side of the basket on the side and the yellow/orange on the underside of the basket!

Yes that would probably work well!

Or something like this:22123555-EAE1-4010-A581-35C395E81435.jpeg

That’s not a great example but you get my drift. Maybe that would be too difficult to do.

I've always wanted to do something with a trillion but I haven't yet. I do have a nice clear one, shallow however.

I like the simplicity of many of the settings at artemer. Maybe you could one of their simple, low-set or bezeled trillion rings as an inspiration. Having a forever ring that is also comfortable might be a good idea.

Going with your theme, why not have those flush-set in the shank on one side. Maybe three little diamonds on the other? Depends on how asymmetry sits with you.

Maybe bezel the main diamond and use a floating bezel to keep it flush. You just need to have enough shank width to protect the culet from a flush band, or add a hidden halo with colored lab diamonds that follow the color theme from the three little melee.

So as usual I have ended up totally revising my plans for this stone!

I’ve decided I’m going to make a stick pin out of it that I can wear to work. I also want to be able to attach it to a chain and wear as a pendant on occasion.

I’d value opinions on which way up the bottom kite diamond looks better. I can’t make up my mind. Two different design sketches below.

Should the bottom diamond point up or down?!500B1AB8-C306-4438-B693-0CC94B678C17.jpegC6A42D62-D8CB-4920-85CB-DB26601C3404.jpeg

I like the kite diamond pointing down (the drawing on the left). Looks like an arrow that way, which I think is cool!

I prefer the point down too I think.

The only thing I’m worried about is if I wear it on a chain as a pendant (I want to make it convertible) it might dig in my cleavage and stab me!

Have them put a prong on the tip. They’d need to do that anyway, and then when you wear it as a pendant, it won’t hurt even if it does stab.

Alternately, have two loops put in the back, (behind each stone) not one. So it is worn as a horizontal arrow, not a vertical one. You may need a special chain though, since the middle section is so thin. The best solution might be two chain sections, that are much smaller in length compared to a typical necklace, that clasps to the back of each stone and to each other. I hope that’s clear (else I can attempt to draw out what I mean).

Ooh that’s a great idea!!

I guess I’m the only one who prefers the one on the right, point up. The other one looks too sharp.

I’ve actually plumped for the right hand one. I think.

This is the latest working draft of the design. Imagine the chain isn’t there and it’s a jabot pin.

This is amazing! I love it.

Sorry the photos are crappy.

I rather like it. It’s got a bit of a vintage vibe. I’m glad I can wear it both ways as well. I will get more wear out if it as a brooch than a necklace I think. The necklace looks dressy but the brooch on a jacket seems less so.
