Most sellers on eBay are reputable and many items sold come with appropriate lab reports.
There are many business sellers who have a bricks and mortar location and use eBay as an additional revenue source.
The biggest danger comes in dealing with private sellers who may or may not know exactly what they are selling. They may assume that there items are genuine and natural not knowing any better. The sneakier ones “allude” to natural origin but cover themselves by stating they aren’t sure.
Almost 100% of those loose big size gemstones out of India, Thailand, China are as fake as they come, together with their fake lab reports. No, you cannot buy a 10 carat Ruby or sapphire or emerald for $50.
The same dubious type sellers refer to CZ as “lab diamonds” which they aren’t and also sell plated jewellery. Again, you can not buy real diamonds and real gold for $200. You will instead be buying CZ in the mass produced base metal or silver which purported 14kt gold plating. No, just no.
So check the seller.
How long have they been on eBay? How many items have they sold? What is their feedback like ? What sort of other items have they sold or currently have listed?
Many sellers, mostly the business type, offer a return for change of mind / didn’t like it. However shipping costs both ways are still your responsibility in these cases. Unless it’s a “not as described” return done through the eBay system which you win, then you’ll also get shipping costs refunded.
eBay does offer buyer protection so carefully read the description and item details. However, it’s easier just to avoid the scam type sellers in the first place.
