So I have taken the advice of others and contacted DanielM on etsy to set this stone you all are probably sick of me talking about :twirl:

I asked him for ideas, no halo, no bezel. We are looking at prong setting with tapered baguettes or a trellis style that we would perhaps dress up perhaps with stones around the center rail. I can't decide I like them both. Which do you prefer? What metal color?

or in conversation about a baguette setting "Metals...do you like the look of mixed metals? One thought would be to do the basket/baguette setting in white and yellow or rose gold (the center basket being yellow/gold) which would look greate with your stone" What do you think of that and what combination would you do?

I'm certainly no designer, and in general I think mixed metals done right can be lovely... but I can't see the rose gold for this stone. The color is strong enough to stand on it's own (as opposed to say, a light pink diamond or sapphire). When all is said and done you may find yourself liking the contrast of the vibrant stone with the white metal. I think all white gold, 14k or 18k with the tapered baguettes would look amazing. Simple, classy, not too busy, lets the stone shine on it's own while still staying true to the clean lines of that stunning asscher.

Just my 2 cents!

Wow, that's a tough decision! Glad to hear you're getting a custom setting and these are both beautiful!

Is the width of the shank the same for both? I love the look of baguettes so I'd probably go with that one but if the trellis setting has a wider shank, I'd go for it; the stone is large and has a beautiful presence so I think it would look great as a solitaire.

No one is every going to be sick of that stone!
To me pink, or any siblings of the red family on the color wheel, looks drab and muddy in rose gold. I would go with platinum, white gold or yellow gold in that order and quirky critter that I am I would have the metal finish brushed or sand blasted so only the stone is gleaming. yellow gold with white prongs would be ok too. Heck I'll go out on a limb here and say even rose gold shank with white gold prongs would be ok by me. But I'll not be wearing it so you should really go with what you feel most comfortable and at ease with. Do you wear other pieces daily? If so what metals are they mostly? will you be wearing this with them?

I like that trellis design but think it would look nicer without the gap being so large under the stone.

I must admit, I am not a fan of the trellis. Also that point of view in the photo is one that few will ever have.

I like the trellis for a round shaped stone...but both settings are really nice!

You mean if the stone sat lower in the setting?
I think I am going to rule out rose gold. I feel that pink stone with a pink toned metal is too much pink for me. I am not that much of a pink girl.
Interesting question about what other jewelry I wear. I don't have a lot. Daily I wear diamond studs in wg bezels. My e-ring and band are platinum. On that arm I wear a two tone watch and usually a gold byzantine bracelet. I wear necklaces rarely.

Nice stone Cemrn.

I have a similar sized spinel that JKT is going to set for me shortly. I'm guessing that your stone is approx 6.0mm in depth, which looks to be a little deeper than the blue stoned ring you posted, so the proportions may not look the same and that may bother you.

That said, you should take a look at Ellen's aquamarine (a Pricescope classic) and see how elegant a very simple design can be for these large square stones: show-me-the-ring/my-recut-reset-heirloom-aquamarine-t86782.html

I would urge you to stay away from Rose gold unless it's a custom alloy that you can get to see ahead of time. Not all rose gold is created equally and some of it can look very coppery. I don't think it will compliment your stone. A white metal with a touch of rose gold in the detailing might be a different story altogether.

Wow Gailey that aquamarine ring is amazing! I was nervous reading the thread which was new to me and I had all the horrible reactions to the recutting of the stone but then, then I saw the ring and the recut and wow. thanks for bringing that one back up!

No rose gold for this. I think white metal would be more appropriate

My Daniel M is 14 ct WG rhodium plated and I couldn't be happier with how the metal looks!

Somehow I don’t feel that rose gold will be suitable for this tourmaline. I think it will do well in a white metal since I see some cool blue coming out of it in your top picture. You can either do side baguettes set the traditional EW or also consider NS orientation since your stone is quite large. This way, it will allow the pink tourmaline enough space to sit low on your hand.
