Hello all,

After seeing all the great advice here I figure I better ask too before I make a move and purchase anything.

1.90-ct-G-SI1-Excellent-Cut:

1.89-i-vs2-excellent-cut:

Its been a while since I purchased only. Last time it was a great experience but I used dirtcheapdiamonds.com and they are no longer available.
Is there some way I can get these locally and compare side by side? I was very impressed when I received the ring. I want the same experience again.

Will I notice any different in them given the slight ct and color shift?

Vendor preference wrt. upgrade policy and warrantees?

I think both cuts are good, can anyone with more experience confirm?

Will they show about the same or will one be perceived larger due to spread?

Thanks in advance.

The 1.89 is significantly better cut than the 1.90. It will face up imperceptibly smaller, but the 1.90 is so poorly cut I wouldn't bother getting it to compare side-by-side.

You could compare the 1.89 to a super ideal cut like one of these, which comes with guaranteed superior light performance and a better upgrade policy.

I think dirt cheap diamonds became James Allen

Thank you all for the input. I thought the 1.9 was a good cut. I guess I was wrong. Glad I came here first.

For education sake what did you notice about the 1.9 Cut? are you using the HCA or something to determine this?

Yes, a combination of the HCA and the poor symmetry and lack of precision cutting.

This is the 1.9 next to a better cut (though not perfect) diamond with similar photography.

The angles are way out of bounds for best chances of maximizing light return and optical performance.
The 41.4/31.5/59 is not a good combo in this case, so this is a great example of a 60/60 style cut gone very wrong

Here's a 40.6/34/55 combo for comparison...note the crispness of the arrows and lack of dark spots between the arrows.

Here's a great video by JannPaul comparing a few diamonds: similarly poor cut to an ideally proportioned diamond...it also showcases their Decagon cut, but the left and center diamonds will be the focus: applicable to the two diamonds that you are asking about.

Good stuff. I definitely missed some of that in my analysis. I have seen smaller diamonds present bigger so I thought I was sacrificing a little on cut for the "Bigger" presentation according to HCA. Thanks for the Input, much appreciated.

But the 1.89 is a winner? I would have liked a G/H but an I can't be that much difference. The last one I brough was a G and I loved it.

I always get excited about diamonds and this kind of detailed analysis. Pretty cool and classy stuff. Are you guys wholesalers too?

I really want to see the stone before it is mounted. would you advise just buying the stone and having it mounted locally? Or sending it back for mounting?

Nope, just enthusiasts and "prosumers"! We benefit nothing from our recommendations.

An I will look different if side-by-side to a G, but on its own probably not.

Do you have a skilled local jeweler? Many people don't, so they'll send it back to the vendor or to another online vendor such as David Klass Jewelry for mounting.

Yes I think Baileys will do it if I buy the ring from them. I kind of want the local checks, cleanings, etc. although I found that most place will do that for free to earn you business in the future.

That do you think of this one vs the 1.89 stone. This caught my eye too:

I can't get the GIA report or video to show up. Can you post the GIA report number?

Yeah I don’t have it but I used HOA on pricescope . I’ll post later
