Hi, I bought this tsavorite about 7 years ago..I do not know anything about them..I just bought it because I loved that vivid green! I wanted opinions on whether it is worthwhile to set it? It is 1.45 ct, measures 7.7x 5.8mm. I don't know the depth. I paid $200 for it..did I get ripped off? Thank you!

I don't think you got ripped off. It will make for a nice piece of jewelry and 1.45 is a nice size for a tsavorite.

It's a beautiful green and I think you got a great price for it.

What they ^ said!

I agree, great deal, beautiful stone! It is nice and bright.

You did very well. You can look for comparable stones at vendors like Primagems, Africagems, etc. The prices are much higher now.

Thanks so much...I have noticed that tsavorite has gone up in price... Just curious, EXPERTS..how much would you think it is worth today? Thanks again! :wavey:

We'd only be able to give you a rough estimate, and we'd need better pics. From here, it looks like it has decent color, but there seems to be some significant "half and half shadowing/extinction" going on, which is a cut flaw.

Yep, it definitely has the half and half thing going on...I can tell the facets underneath are uneven in places...no matter which way I turn it??half is darker than the other. I'm learning!!!!

As Pregcurious suggested, since you have the tsavorite in hand and know its colour exactly, check out other vendors' tsavorites to see the going rate. A good starting place is Primagems, Africagems, Paraiba International, Swala Gem Traders, etc. If my memory serves me correctly, I recall that half extinction is generally lessened when the stone is orientated EW or set in a pendant (you aren't looking straight down at it).
