This is probably a very easy question for some of you out there but it is driving me up a wall. Hubby and I got married in November and want to file our 2007 taxes together. I used TurboTax for the first time for our 2006 taxes when we were not married and filed separately. TTax for 2007 tax year will automatically carry over last year''s information for comparison. Well, it only brings over my information and I have to enter hubby''s info.

In 2007, we both received refunds from 2006 taxes for both State and Federal. I know the State refund amount must be filed on the next years Federal. TTax is only carrying forward the state refund I received last year to the Federal forms, but since I have to manually enter hubbys info it doesn''t include a place to list it. Should I just manually override my state refund amount to include his, as well. Since I thought it was on system oversight, I sent an email to TTax and received an auto-reply saying they considered all questions but possibly would not contact me back (well, well, well, isn''t that sweet-as-sugar of them since I paid good money for their program

Also, I got a postcard in the mail from the State Department of Revenue, form 1099-G, indicating the amount of my State refund from 2006 tax year. This postcard states the following: "Generally, your State income tax refund must be included in your federal income for the year in which your check was recieved if you deducted the State income tax paid as an itemized deduction on your federal return." Both of us itemized, I could because of having a house--Hubby could because of medical bills. Hubby didn''t get one of these postcards, not sure why.

I have checked the IRS site and even called the IRS, but it was from work on my lunch break and they apparantly are required to ask every possible question to cover every circumstance and I didn''t have hubby''s tax returns with me so I told them I would call back....it was overwhelming. I don''t have a tax person to ask, either.

So, bottom line, does anyone know where in TurboTax I should list hubby''s state refund...or if someone knows the form where it should be I can try to manually enter it. And, why wouldn''t hubby get a postcard?

Anyone else out there filing "married filing jointly" for the first time and using TurboTax?

I hope this makes sense and someone can help.
Thanks!

There''s a toll free number on the Turbo tax website and you can call them. It only takes a few minutes to get through.

Turbo Tax has a Live Community on-line where you can ask your question, and look at the answers to questions others have asked. After looking through similar questions, my guess is that you simply override your amount and put in the correct combined amount.

heraanderson--For some reason I thought you had to pay for TurboTax help. I''ll give them a call. Thanks!

Fly Girl--I looked at some of those questions but I must have looked right over it. Well, at least I have a second opinion that I may need to adjust my total.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I''ll get this figured out. I''m gonna tell hubby it was easier being single .

sumbride--Finally, I did it! Ok, you have to go to the form 1040, actually open the form (took me a while to figure this out...I never knew you could do that) double-click on line 10 and you will get a pop-up where you can list your 2006 State Refund and amount and also your hubby''s. You list each of them separately and it will total for you...then TurboTax will print your "worksheet" at the end of your Federal file when you print. Good luck!! I get my $$ on April 11 according to the TTax chart because I filed before April 3. Hubby wants a guitar so I may not get to see it in my account for very long
