Hi lovely PS!

I wanna thank you every who has written in about the tennis necklace all of your comments have really helped me I have decided to stay with 10 carats and between 17-18. I emailed Deejay Jewelers and they told me they have most of the front diamonds soldered together to help with flipping and If I shorten it more it might flip. Anyway, I was wondering if you all could help me figure how to wear it as a bracelet as well. I’d like to get the most out of my money as this is an expensive purchase for a early 20 year old haha. It would be awesome to be able to wear this both ways and get more use out of it. If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear it :)

Have a great Saturday <3

If you want convertible necklace/ bracelet I think you only have two options.

1) buy a skinny line style low carat necklace like this one. But I haven't heard great things about this vendor.

2) buy a tennis bracelet and have an extender custom made. However, the diamonds will not go all the way around.

Check out xothebijouxbox on IG. She has done some of these conversions.

Most necklaces will not turn correctly if worn as braclets. If they do then the type of linkage is just wrong for a necklace.
Tennis necklaces will all from time to time flip a bit. But well designed should sit right 90%+ and flib back right very quickly.
Hot humid skin can mess up these plans though.

To add: if you want the stones to go all the way around, you can buy a tennis bracelet and get a custom diamond extender, ie the extender looking just like the tennis bracelet itself. Then it can be worn as a bracelet or a necklace, but in that case you may need to do a choker to mitigate flipping.

Can't work ever.

I’ve tried on a piece at my jeweler’s which works in this exact way, so it does work… but it is a low-choker style, not a longer length. Maybe I didn’t do a good job of explaining what I meant.

Edit: trying again to explain: the bracelet in question was about 6.5” IIRC. It was all stones the same size and fit perfectly fine as a bracelet. Clasp was a typical “push” one but invisible (hidden behind stones) so when worn the bracelet was seamless. There were two “extension” sections that clasped into either end of the bracelet and each other. The entire thing was around 13.5” or 14” thereabouts, because it fit me like a choker towards the lower section of my neck. Since it was tight against the neck, it didn’t seem like there would be any issues with rolling or flipping. I don’t know if it would work for a longer necklace though. Also, the stones were on the bigger side and all the same size if that would make a difference.

Sounds like a Rocky Horror

Imo it was beautiful, but different strokes for different folks. The setting was done in an astonishingly seamless way, you couldn't tell it was multiple pieces unless you looked closely. I'm not in the market for a tennis necklace just yet and when I will be I prefer a graduated one at a slightly longer length than choker, but if I was, I'd have bought this in a jiffy. This was a custom piece made for a different client that he let me try before it was collected, so I'm not the only one who thinks its worth buying, clearly!

OP I think the bottomline is that you can’t get a riviera style to convert to a bracelet.

If you want a convertible option, you have to get a skinny low carat convertible line style or find a (probably costly) custom style which will have to be worn as a choker.

Thank you I will check it out :)

Thank you for your response! I appreciate the information I don’t know why I didn’t figure out that the necklace won’t turn correctly like that but it makes so much more sense now that you wrote it all out! The one I’m looking at has the front stones soldered together so I’m hoping 90% of the time it won’t flip. As for the hot humid skin luckily I don’t live somewhere hot all year round so I think it will work out. Im thinking I don’t want to sacrifice the Rivera style so I’m going to just save up and that will be my next piece :)

This is a fantastic idea! I would love to do this I just am not sure if I can do that right now it might be too costly at this time but for the future I will keep it in mind because my goal is to have the Rivera, tennis bracelet and choker style. All within the next 5-10 years would be great haha. How cool it would be to have the choker style and bracelet in 1. Thank you for your response :)

You're welcome! Another thing you could do is to have a "fancy" clasp on either end of your TB and so when it connects to the extender it looks different on purpose.

I tried to draw out what I mean through MS PPT because upon googling it I found zero good examples. I used an Art Deco sort of inspiration because that's a style I enjoy but I am not a designer. This is just for inspo.

Imagine a tennis bracelet where the clasp is something decorative, like this. I "designed" a clasp with 2 traps and 4 baguettes (not a great design, but its a placeholder for explanation). The closing mechanism is concealed behind the baguettes in this case. If you want a safety feature, a safety clasp that goes behind the baguette part instead of being a hook and nub on the side will work for this concept.

For easier visualisation, this is what the TB looks like open (blue denotes clasp part). The extenders will also look like this, with a tab portion and a slot portion on either end.

When all of them are clasped together, you have the two art deco clasp sections visible at the side of your neck / a bit towards the front of your neck depending on the lengths you need for bracelet and necklace. Here is a visualisation:

At the back you would have a third clasp that looks like this, which is where the extenders clasp together. It will look like a design choice imo.

That is amazing! Thank you so much for drawling that out I saved it because it is genius:)

Also, what carat weight would you recommend for a project like this? Thanks <3

I'm a bigger is better girl, so as big as you can go! I think a design like this would only really work with a non-graduated style, since you also want to wear it as a bracelet. You could likely get away with your extender section being smaller diamonds than the front, but then there would be a significant drop in size, and I feel like that might look mismatched/too many elements.

Budget and everything dependent, of course, but I would say perhaps ideally 20-25pts each stone? Though that would add up fast...

I checked out your avatar pic and if that's your diamond ring it's absolutely fantastic!!

That would be ideal haha

I have another idea, but this moves even further away from the original point of the thread. What if you did multiple lines (eg 3 lines) of much smaller diamonds for this choker/bracelet idea? It would get you the presence without as high of a price tag…

I like that! I’m gonna look up similar looks for it now :)

What you are asking for reminds me of this antique bracelet/choker that was on Antiques Roadshow:

Maybe this can give you some ideas.

Wow that’s amazing !! Thank you for sharing :)

Need more pics please! I'd love to know how you figured this out

I conceived the idea in my head using necklaces like this JBG one as inspo:

The bracelet has to have some flex to it to work.

Are you on IG? I made a how to reel :)

@lulu_ma but then isnt the 9 inch anklet too big to wear as a bracelet?
