Hello all, as I've previously mentioned in another thread, I am looking for a Canadian stone because Canada holds sentimental value to us. Finding these stones has proven to be somewhat difficult. A local jeweler recently just received two new Canadian stones. Both have HCA scores <2. Would love to know your thoughts based strictly off the certs. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • 1.54, D, I1 (surprisingly eye clean in person), $12k USD, GIA= 2225503882
    • Note: Is table too high (59) and depth too low (59.5)? Also a very small cutlet?

  • 1.3, H, SI1, $9500 USD, GIA= 7411631991
    • Note- Is lower facet too low (70)?

Any pictures to post? Straight on and upclose?

Are cell phone pictures sufficient? I am going back tomorrow to check them out again and can take some photos.

Does the jeweler have an Ideal-Scope or a Hearts & Arrows viewer? If you can take a photo through one of those, it would be more helpful.

I doubt the jeweler has those but I was able to find the 1.3 also being listed on bluenile. Any thoughts? Is that common for jewelers to also list their diamonds on a big site like that?

Yes, pretty common for diamonds to be listed in multiple places. Is it eye-clean in person, with that crystal on the table? It looks very nice otherwise. The 70% lower girdle facet looks great on this stone--I love the chunky arrows.

So how does blue nile have the zoomed in 360 video if I saw the stone in store yesterday? Did the jeweler take that video and send it to blue nile? Or do you think they sent the stone to blue nile and then blue nile sent it back? Thanks in advance.

Your jeweler does not own the stone. Bluenile does not own it either. This stone was called in by your jeweler. They are owned by
diamond brokers/cutters and can be listed for sale on several vendor's sites at the same time. Are you looking for a stone that
was mined in Canada? How do you know these were mined in Canada? Just wondering.

Was it eye-clean to you?

Yes I am looking for Canadian. It was eye clean to me.

Regarding their Canadian claim, apparently he buys rough from the mine in Yellowknife either there, or in Toronto. Since we are so close to Toronto I never really questioned it to be honest. The diamond is then cut onsite in Buffalo, NY (they are only diamond cutters in the area). He said he could get it certified Canadian. I'm assuming this would be through the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct; I've previously reached out to this organization and they said they do things like that. Do you recommend I go with a different "Canadian brand", something like Canadamark instead?

And I'm guessing this stone may not be Canadian if he doesnt own it....

Ask your jeweler if he owns the stone? If he says yes, ask him why it's for sale on BN?

I'm not saying that it's not a Canadian stone. I would dig deeper though to make sure you're not being deceived.

When is the jeweler going to get it certified Canadian? I guess not until you buy it or put money down on it?

We need to get some other's opinions/advice.

The origin story sounds extremely fishy to me.
Unless I was shown proof, I would not be inclined to believe it.

If he jeweler doesnt own the stone, I feel like he csnt be sure its Canadian (although I could be wrong).
