I got a sharper image ultrasonic cleaner for my new e-ring (yes, this purchase was made after reading the many PS posts raving about them

You are all such enablers!!

haha!) Anyways, reading through the thread you were all talking about what you added to the cleaning solution - water, amonia, windex, dawn dish soap. I got kind of confused as to what people thought worked best. Anyone want to share again?

And if you put dawn dish soap in there, don''t you think it will leave residue on the ring, since you don''t rinse it after you take it out of the US? I stopped using the dawn because it was making soapy bubbles moves through all the small open spaces on my e-ring''s head.

Anyways, can you share your best cleaning solution for the US? Thanks.

I guess I should say, the solution I''ve been using is half amonia, half warm water. Is that all you''re supposed to do?

I put in a drop of dish washing detergent then I fill the cup with to the "min fill" line with amonia and then the rest of the way to the "max fill" line with water.

I do rinse my jewelry off after I take it out--is that a No No?

I don''t know if it''s a No No, I just thought drying it straight from the ammoia would keep more water spots away.

You have to rinse off your rings after they have been in the US. I rinse them under hot water, and dry my rings with lint free TP.

I do 1/2 ammonia, 1/2 hot water plus a drop of dishwashing detergent & a spritz or two of Mr. Clean.

I got that recipe from a US thread... can''t claim credit!

And I do rinse with hot water. Once I was in a rush and didn''t rinse... the ammonia totally irritated my ring finger! There''s delicate skin there!

really just add whatever you want. there is no 'recipe'. from what i remember, everyone basically uses different components of similar items.

dishwashing soap
mr clean
ammonia
really hot water
windex

whatever.

and just rinse it off afterwards and dry it. i would never wear something with ammonia on it on my hand without rinsing it. oh and i would be JAZZED if the solution was moving through my ring's spaces. it would mean it was actually doing it's job, aka cleaning it!

IMO you will have to try some stuff to figure out what you visually think works the best.

I use hot water, a couple cap fulls of Mr. Clean and a few sqirts of windex.

I microwave water in the microwave for about 30 sec and use half water and half ammonia. It''s filled up almost to the max fill line. Then I put two drops of Dawn in. I go through two cycles in the US, then wait about 1/2 hour to take the jewelry out (otherwise, it''s too hot!).

I definitely rinse my jewelry when I take it out. I always scrub it with a soft toothbrush (that is dipped in the solution) when it''s done to get off any residue which may still be clinging to the jewelry.

why do you say you don''t rinse? of course you rinse!

hey--i''m so glad you posted this topic! i just got my SI US last week (bought a like-new one on ebay from SI like was suggested on the US thread) and saved a ton of moolah thanks to you guys. anyway, i only had windex at home, so i had been using:

half windex
half hot tap water
sometimes a drop of dawn

and it seems to work pretty well, but i wanted to try to the mr. clean approach. so i was at the grocery store last night and i was totally confused. there are a few different kinds of mr. clean, but i assumed everyone is talking about the original yellow stuff that is designed for the floor (not in a spray bottle). i was expecting the active ingredient in the mr. clean to be ammonia since i thought people were substituting it for the ammonia due to the smell. however, when i looked at the bottle it stated that sodium hydroxide was the active ingredient. so then i looked around the other shelves and saw that right next to the giant bottles of ammonia were LEMON SCENTED giant bottles of ammonia, so i briefly considered going with that....but by now i was pretty confused and already spending way too much time in the cleaning product aisle, so i just got more windex!
can anyone please give me some more specifics on the type of mr. clean that they use? thanks!

I remember reading somewhere around here that leaving rings in ammonia for more than a couple of minutes was not good for the metal. So I'd try to keep that in mind, too.
