SO... I followed the advice of many of the kind ladies on here and went to Nordstroms to get fitted into some undergarments that would work for the gown I'm wearing NYE... and that I plan to wear under my wedding gown as well (considering what I just spent!).

I tried on strapless and corset bras from La Mysterie, Wacoal, and about 3 other makers. For a LARGE busted and well... SOFT fleshed (read: no muscle tone) gal like myself the La Mysterie wasn't bad... but I had to go up to a DD and it still wasn't perfect. I normally wear an 36D, keep that in mind. So the lady brought in one from a maker named Fantasie who makes these bras for non-standard size women and it's MUCH larger (would have to check tag and it's at Nordstrom getting snaps on it to and my dress to snap it in place and keep it there) than I normally wear... but it fit perfectly and reduced the boobs trying to merge with the underarms effect most of these bras have on me. SO... if your hard to fit... this bra might be for you!

Then I tried on Spanx. Now, I have my own shaper and it's a good brand, and does it's job well... but I had to try on the spanx to see what all the hype is about.

HELLO COMFORT! I ACTUALLY felt comfortable in one of these... and under the gown it looked the same as my uncomfortable as HECK shaper. Plus it has straps that hook it to your bra so that it doesn't come down when you sit down. Now... these may or may not work with the strapless number I've got (as it may pull the bra down)... but they sure as heck woud work with a strappy bra.

So that's my undergarment experiences... feel free to post yours here too. I know it's an issue that's of particular concern for the ladies on this board.

BTW. The sales lady KNEW her stuff. And she REALLY REALLY helped me. I wouldn't have found a strapless bra without her.

I finally got the spanx bottoms [not the high waist ones but the ones that end at your waist] and I have to say that I am impressed. I''m in pretty good shape but do have a thin layer of . . . ahem . . . padding, shall we say and the spanx does not cut in at the waist or the thighs. It makes a smooth transition. I have to say that I am impressed.

I just have to say...I really love Spanx. But, not for the reason that most people who assume...I find that when I have awful cramps, the pressure that they give makes me feel better....I know, I''m such a weirdo. But, they are really comfortable.

Can any of you post the version of Spanx that you like? I went once to try them, and there were SO many different kinds, I just coulodn''t figure out what get. Thanks!

I went to Nordstrom when I was in the USA in September - purely to buy Spanx.

Wow - they are so much better than any others that I have tried.

I''m on the thin side, but due to being 35, and unable to do much exercise due to my spinal problems, there are various bits that just look better with ''scaffolding''.!

I bought the ones that go from mid-thigh to just under the bust (with the little straps to hook on to your bra).

To be honest I have never used the straps as it all stays up without help - unlike various other brands.

The only thing I''m not so keen on and sorry if this is TMI is the crotch design which is a bit uncomfortable. Personally I haven''t found it a problem to pull the whole thing down (and up again) when you need to go, but maybe my dresses aren''t as tight as some people''s.

Anyhow, as you can''t get them in the UK, I''m giving loads of them as Xmas gifts!

I have the
Power Panties, the Low Rise Footless, the Cropped Pants and a sleeveless top that I don''t see on the site.
Also, one of these days I plan to get the tights [regular, high waisted, and footless] and the Slim Cognito Body Suit.

Pandora, those sound like the same pair I bought... and yes, TMI, but I had a concern about the whole going to the bathroom thing. I'm happy to know there is a CHANCE it will stay up with out the straps that hook into the bra, because while I thought they were a great idea, I was too keen about testing the laws of gravity with a strapless bra.

Facetfire-- honestly, best advice is to go to Nordstrom when it's not too busy (I went on my lunch --cough cough 2.5-- hour) and just have one of their 'fit specialists' help you out. They are really knowledgeable there and happy to help.

I'm thrilled with the undergarments, especially since the ceremony is a get up, sit down, kneel (and repeat an 100 times) catholic traditional ceremony.

Thanks, I am going to go check those out!
