SO... I followed the advice of many of the kind ladies on here and went to Nordstroms to get fitted into some undergarments that would work for the gown I'm wearing NYE... and that I plan to wear under my wedding gown as well (considering what I just spent!).
I tried on strapless and corset bras from La Mysterie, Wacoal, and about 3 other makers. For a LARGE busted and well... SOFT fleshed (read: no muscle tone) gal like myself the La Mysterie wasn't bad... but I had to go up to a DD and it still wasn't perfect. I normally wear an 36D, keep that in mind. So the lady brought in one from a maker named Fantasie who makes these bras for non-standard size women and it's MUCH larger (would have to check tag and it's at Nordstrom getting snaps on it to and my dress to snap it in place and keep it there) than I normally wear... but it fit perfectly and reduced the boobs trying to merge with the underarms effect most of these bras have on me. SO... if your hard to fit... this bra might be for you!

Then I tried on Spanx. Now, I have my own shaper and it's a good brand, and does it's job well... but I had to try on the spanx to see what all the hype is about.
HELLO COMFORT! I ACTUALLY felt comfortable in one of these... and under the gown it looked the same as my uncomfortable as HECK shaper. Plus it has straps that hook it to your bra so that it doesn't come down when you sit down. Now... these may or may not work with the strapless number I've got (as it may pull the bra down)... but they sure as heck woud work with a strappy bra.
So that's my undergarment experiences... feel free to post yours here too. I know it's an issue that's of particular concern for the ladies on this board.
BTW. The sales lady KNEW her stuff. And she REALLY REALLY helped me. I wouldn't have found a strapless bra without her.
