I finally got the full-length pics of me in my dress with my current veil. Now, before the opinions start flying, let me say that I have my heart set on a 2-tier veil with the ribbon edging. I also DO NOT want a cathedral length veil. But my current veil is finger-tip length, and it has beads along the edges. So here are my questions:

Would a shorter veil look better?
Would crystals scattered over teh whole veil look better than the beads?
Any other suggestions?

And I also have questions about the train (which you can see a few posts down). Since the seamstress will have to take a decent amount off the front of my dress since I am so short, should I have her take an equal length off the train to sort of balance it out? Does this length of train overwhelm me?

Thanks in advance, and sorry I don''t know how to post more than one pic per post!

A closer look of the veil from the front (please ignore the lack of makeup!)

The full-length back shot...Does the veil take away from the detail of the dress too much? That''s why I''m wondering if shorter would be better, but I also only plan on wearing the veil for the ceremony...

First of all Sabine, WOW you look great! The length of the veil looks fine to me.. although have you considered a veil without a ribbon trim? As to not hide the beautiful detail on the back of the dress.

Hmmmmmmm. I do think the veil hides the detail on the dress somewhat, but I''m not sure it would do so any less if you went shorter. I''m trying to picture what it would look like with an elbow length 2-tier, so the first tier would land somewhere around where your dress starts, and the second tier would fall around your waist. Are there any shops where you live where you could take your dress in with you to try on some shorter veils with it? There are at least a couple bridal accessories shops here around Detroit where they encourage you to bring in your gown to play dress-up with all of their goodies...veils, lingerie, shoes, jewelry, etc. You could bring your camera and hopefully get some shots to see for yourself what the back looks like and then compare your options.

All of that said, I think the veil you have now looks great, even if it hides some of your dress detail, and as you said you won''t be wearing it all night. I''d think of it as hiding the detail to better show off the train, followed by hiding the train to better show off the detail.

Also, I don''t think the train overwhelms you at all. I would just ask the seamstress about how the shortened hem will flow into the train to make sure the transition is smooth. I imagine they deal with that with almost every dress they hem, though, so I''m sure they can tell you what your best option is.

Haha! How funny! You and I both posted the same question at practically the same time!!!

Obvs I''m no expert on this subject either, but your dress is beautiful. You look stunning in it.

I think it looks fab-o just as it is. I think it''s the perfect length.

Honestly Sabine, I'm not crazy about that veil and I dont think the thick satin ribbon edging is enhancing anything. I dont usually care for that style where it "flutters" down on the sides as it can be too distracting and in this case I think that's one of the things that bothers my eye - the fluttery edge style, and that ribbon. You have such lovely, delicate detailing on the dress all over and that ribbon is to me, more for a "tailored" dress style, not for the style you have, which seems more old style/princess-ish gown, you know what I mean? I know you said you dont want a cathedral length veil but what about trying on a simple single layered veil that's about floor length (not cathedral which I believe means trailing like a train)? I'm thinking if you did that, and wore the veil over your face for the processional, but then were able to flip back that part during the ceremony (lots of mantilla veils do that - it looks like one piece of single layer veil that also covers the face, as opposed to a two tiered veil, if that makes sense) it might look "cleaner" and allow the beautiful bead work and detailing to come through the single layered veil? Worth a try perhaps? I dont think a shorter two tier would do much...I think it might look unbalanced since your gown has so much detail and the satin gives it a weightier look. Try the longer veil! I beg of you...

ETA: I just looked at your photos again and I think what I'm trying to get at with a single layer longer veil is that it will look more ethereal than with the veil in the photo, if that makes sense...

I really like the veil. If you go shorter, I wouldn''t do the two tiers or you''ll add a lot of bulk at your shoulders that could keep falling forward.

When the dress is taken up in front, I would leave the length in the back. It would be very difficult to take it up all the way around without causing some sort of problem. I don''t think it''s too long.

You look beautiful!

I would do a 30 inch or appropriate elbow length with a blusher. Beading is fine, crystals might be nicer but truthfully none of that will show up in pics. Because your dress is ornate I would skip the ribbon edge and do a beaded, crystal or thin silver shimmer edge.

You look beautiful by the way, really gorgeous.
