I''ve been working on planning the weekend I will be proposing to my gf and I would love to get some reactions/opinions/thoughts from the LIW group.

First a little background. We live in Southern California, we''ve been together for about a year and a half, lived together for 4 months, and despite out busy work schedules, we love to explore new places. We''re going to take a Friday off in March and spend the weekend driving up the California coast, spending 2 nights in Carmel by the Sea. She knows we''re taking this trip but she has no idea what I have planned.

Originally, I was thinking I would propose on that Saturday. But I''ve changed my mind and now think I''d rather propose the first day so that we can fully enjoy the whole weekend and our new status (plus I''m going to be pretty nervous I''m sure). On our drive up the coast, one of the stops we are going to make is at Limekiln State Park. There is a 1/2 mile hike that leads you up to Limekiln Falls, a 100 ft waterfall that cascades down a limestone face (see photos below). Hidden in the backpack I''ll be wearing will be her ring and I''m going to propose to her at the base of the falls.

When we reach Carmel, we''ll be staying at the Tickle Pink Inn, a great inn overlooking the ocean in the Carmel Highlands (see photo below). In addition to the bottle of champagne and chocolates that awaits every guest when they check into their room, I am going to arrange to have rose pedals placed all over our room. In addition to a fabulous view and deck, our room also has a fireplace, so after we celebrate at dinner, we can relax in front of the fire.

On Saturday, besides strolling through the shops and galleries in downtown Carmel, I''ve made reservations to go horseback riding on the sand dunes and bluffs at Pebble Beach. Going riding is something we''ve talked about doing for a long time now. Following our ride, it''s off to our appointment for a couple''s massage at a local spa, followed by dinner.

The great thing is our path home will take us right by the area where her family lives, so we can make a stop to share the news in person on our way home.

Anyway, I''m very interested in hearing what you think. If you have any other suggestions or advice, I''m all ears.

Seriously, I think it is so sweet and thoughtful and all of those details are going to make it a story she will be so thrilled and proud to tell her family/friends. You''re a keeper, sir

Sounds perfect to me!!! I agree with proposing on the first day --- you don''t want to spend your whole getaway stressing out!!! The falls look and sound beautiful. Just be sure to throw in some sweet words before the question, and I think you are set. Be sure to come back with the details and a few pictures!!!

Or even ring pictures or details now if you have them!!!

You should totally post this in the Proposal Ideas forum too! I think it''s divine and she''ll be so happy!

Thanks for the kind words and advice! Since some of you have asked, here are the ring details and a photo. The photo came out not so great and looks yellowish. I can''t see a hint of yellow in person.

The stone is from Whiteflash''s Expert selection, 1.15 carat, I color, ideal cut, VS2. The setting is a Ritani micro pave setting with another .25 carats.

I think it sounds beautiful, and I'd love to go there! I live in So. Cal, too. How far is Carmel? Me thinks i want to go to Carmel... Maybe I should "hint" to the boyfriend.. Sounds FANTASTIC! Great job, honestly.

Oh, and I LOVE OFFICE SPACE. And I have a red stapler, too!

Ok, it''s official. How do you feel about plural marriage?

Kidding. OMG, that ring is heaven, the proposal sounds divine....I''m off to your other thread now. And no worries, there''s no way an ideal-cut WF I is going to have any color, I''m sure it''s sparkly white....it''s clearly just the light in that pic. YUM, that Ritani is one of my faves!!!

You crack me up Blueroses!

Amber, Carmel is between LA and SF. Distance wise, it''s probably about 300 miles from LA. Honestly though, the best thing about going up to NoCal is the drive itself. Highway 1 has plenty of turnoffs, vista points, state parks, small towns of interest (Cambria, Big Sur, etc), and the Hearst Castle in San Simeon. The scenery is unmatched anywhere in the world, in my opinion. If you do it right, the drive from LA to Carmel should take about 8 hours, give or take an hour.

Why is it, everytime I drive up north (I dated a guy in Santa Rosa, north of Oakland), I end up stuck on the 5 in traffic, on a 100 degree day, right outside the slaughterhouse? Luck!! It sounds lovely. I''m going to start taking the 1! That''s how we got to Santa Barbara (and got lost...

I think it sounds heavenly and love that you will propose at the beginning of your trip. I have been to Carmel, it is such a beautiful spot. Love the ring, good luck. Have fun!!! Oh and don''t forget to post hand pics once you get back!!!

The proposal idea sounds awesome! I agree to do it on the first night. She may get suspicious after a while, especially if you''re acting all giddy.

The ring turned out awesome too! Have a wonderful trip!

I think this proposal will be FABULOUS!!! Lucky girl!

It sounds as if you have thought this out with a great deal of attention to detail.
O.k., so I''m no lady, nor am I waiting, but heck, I''ve been to Carmel.

It was 1977. Spring.
Hitchhiked from northern Washington all the way down the coast. No romance, as I was with a high-school buddy.
Arriving at Carmel, I knew that it was a very special place.
At that time, I think it had one jewellery store.
I vowed that, one day, I would have a jewellery studio there.

Well, I have one, but it''s stuck in the frozen confines of western Canada, and we aren''t gonna move!

Good choice of localles for an engagement.

I have a question, though...
Is the place you''re staying really called the Tickle Pink Inn?
That''s really funny, if you''re as twisted as I am.

Congratulations in advance of the celebration. You sound like a truly with-it guy. She''s gonna flip!

Yep, it''s really called the Tickle Pink Inn. It got it''s name from the original owners, State Senator Edward and Mrs. Bess Tickle, who happend to like pink flowers. Hence the name.

Here''s the website link:

WOW, how wonderful. cograts on what seems like the perfect plan!

The proposal sounds truly wonderful! Very romantic and the location sounds and looks just beautiful, especially with the waterfalls. I definitely agree about doing it the first night, so you can really enjoy the weekend together and celebrate the new engagement. Good luck!

Best of luck to you on your proposal plan, it sounds just DIVINE! The Tickle Pink Inn is simply beyond your expectations, so she''ll be thrilled with that!

I agree on the drive . . . I did the 2000 VW of America Club drive up PCH, and we stopped everywhere you mentioned. The pool at Hearst Castle has always been a dream proposal location of mine, just because it''s simply breathtaking - that view, and that place!

Congrats and have fun!! This sounds a weekend neither of you will ever forget!
