A quick update on my earlier stressed-out post on jobs and grad school:
I just got back from a long weekend at one of my top-choice grad programs, and I loved it. The people were amazingly friendly and it seemed perfect in terms of what I want academically. They have great people in all the subjects that I might want to eventually go into. And my favorite professor there is open for students. I was so tempted to just accept their offer, but made myself wait. I''m already scheduled to visit my other top-choice school in early April, and their offer includes fewer teaching responsibilities my first year.
BF just got back from Europe, and he got an email about a job while he was gone. He had previously interviewed with a company about half an hour away from the school I just visited, and they want him to come up for a second interview!
My one qualm about this job is that it''s more managerial, while he might want more experience in his particular field given his professional goals.
Health-wise, though, things aren''t looking that great. I had another lumbar MRI last Monday. It looks like my herniation might have gotten slightly worse since December, despite all the treatment and rest and drugs. My orthopedic surgeon wants me to schedule surgery for right after I visit top-choice grad program #2. As back surgeries go, it''s a relatively routine procedure that should get me back to normal, but still.
