BF and I went serious ring shopping on Saturday
36.gif

Prior to this it's been window-browsing, then asking 'where are the, ahem, diamonds, please' and some sniffing round the counters trying on the odd thing if a SA offered. But Saturday BF marched in and straight away asked to see "ENGAGEMENT RINGS" - I'm such a dork, I felt so proud of him marching in there all confident and excited! He was pleased with himself because he reckons his budget would get us close to a carat even in Rip Off Ireland and he's delighted with how large that looks on my hand. I think he's dead chuffed he can afford to buy me something that looks so impressive, for some reason he thought all he'd be able to afford would be a wee speck. He got all the details written down and then told me to go and find out what similar would cost on the PS search engine. He was reeeeally into it. I am beyond giddy

And, very romantically, we seem to agree totally on settings and what we think looks good. We both like VERY plain settings, a fluid solitaire with a plain band. Oh, and a big ol' diamond on top

woohoo! That''s so cool. Which stores did you go to? Any idea what shape or setting you''re going for?

Delster - How exciting! I''m sure you and your bf are going to have a great time finding a diamond and a setting together.

Have you compared prices via PS yet? Do they compare?

Congrats!!!!! What an exciting time. I have just started shopping in the last few days and it can be a bit overwhelming. I am a bit neurotic though and havn''t been getting much sleep. One other tiny problem, I think I am suffering from what us PSers refer to as DSS already - diamond shrinkage syndrome and I havn''t even got my ring yet!!!

That''s soooo exciting!! Can''t wait to see the ring!! :-)

Hehehe, awww, that is just so adorably sweet, how exciting he was to go ring shopping!! Congrats, and I love the fluid look of plain solitaires and bands myself, so I can''t wait to see what you pick out, babe!!

Aw, thank you everyone for all the warm wishes!

Miscka and idreamofice - I think he's a sweetie too! Doesn't hurt that he's tall, dark and GORGEOUS to boot

bee - I replied to you on the RockyTalky thread, don't feel comfortable naming the stores after I slated them, but they were in the D2 area.

honey22 I know what you mean about DSS. This site is a bad influence! There I was thinking 'oh I'd love a 1.5' and when I see what a .60 or a .80 actually looks like on my hand I feel terrible because even that size looks pretty darn big. I think BF's caught it too though as he says a .60 looks too small and he's gonna shoot for a carat. Course, I didn't protest, ha ha!

Sparkalicious - that was the first thing I did when we got home!

The link to my review of Dublin prices v PS prices is in the first post on this thread.

Now don't get too excited ladies, don't be expecting a proposal post any time soon. We are planning a trip to the States when I finish my research, hopefully in May/June, and nothing is gonna happen before then.

For the ring, I think it will be a very plain solitaire. I like Leon's solitaire and Mark Morrell's Torchiere, but it turns out I'm a matchy-matchy kind of person so that raises obvious problems. I also like the D.Vatché X Prong but I'm not sure about a 3mm ring. I also like the Harry Winston style RB with baguette sides, but BF isn't so keen on that one. Solitaire I think it'll be!

Hooray for serious shopping!! Hopefully it won''t be long now for you!
