I went into Hannoush today, because I finally decided that I didn''t want the ring wrap. I had so many doubts I knew it wasn''t right.

I told them I wanted to look at a larger solitaire upgrade.

They were SO NASTY and snotty to me, it was just unreal. Two of the sales women acted like I was just trash. This is of course when I decided they lost my business. I''m just upset that I have two rings being sized right now, I don''t want to give them a penny. >

I will NEVER shop there again.

After that, I went downstairs to Kay and was treated with actual respect. There is a nice sale going on, and I could even afford more than I had guessed. They will also take my currnet ring as a trade up, do a nice layaway plan, its all so easy and nice.

Now I have to decide, do I want one of their bargain diamonds? I would have it sooner and I could get it bigger. They were pretty bad though... K, SI2. :/ I don''t know if even having 3/4 of a stone is worth that. Any thoughts?

On the certified diamonds I could get a 5/8 carat, and it of course will just be better.

I bet you guys will say get the smaller better, but I''d still like to know for sure pretty please?? :)

Now I''m off to figure out what shape I like. What a fun problem. :D

Thanks so much for everyones help!!!

oh cobaltgirl, I''m so sorry they were not nice to you! What were they saying? That is so unfortunate.....

I would not go for the K SI1, IMO. I think that the certified route sounds better, and 5/8 isn''t too shabby, and will be a noticeable difference from what you have now. I am a quality over quantity type of person though, and everyone is different.

BTW, are you changing to a different shape?? I have a princess and loooooove it, but different strokes for different folks

You''ll have fun looking at all the different options though! Do you have any pics of your current ring that you could post? That might help us to give opinions better.

Keep us posted on what''s going on

Cobaltgirl,
I am so sorry to hear you were treated so rudely, that''s terrible. Now about going to Kay, you don''t want to do that either if all they are offering you is k SI2, not the way to go. Keep on looking, I am assuming you need to go to a jeweler that will allow you to trade in your current diamond. You want to go up in size, up in cut, and hopefully up in color. The clarity can be sacrificed to some degree. I think you need to explore all your options. Good luck!

Perhaps not. I don''t think color would be all that obvious on a smaller stone. As long as fine cut makes them bright, J-K can''t make such a huge difference.

How does the price compare to these online ?

Ideally if you can''t afford a colorless, IF, diamond, you will either sacrifice a little color or clarity to get the size you want. Personally, I would not go for a K si2 . It will look yellowy and you will be able to see flaws with your eyes. My first engagement ring is 5/8 ct. E si1 round cut. It looked close to a 3/4 ct. I am now upgrading to a 1.50ct. yellow cushion cut diamond. What are the specs for the 5/8 ct. diamond? What is your budget? My stone was purchased for $1800 at a local jeweler. A solitaire setting could cost $80-$150. That diamond was also certed. Mall jewelers charge more for their rings while giving you lower quality at the same time. Find a local jeweler if you can.

Good Luck

Hi,

IF the K SI 2 isn''t certified, it''s probably is even lower than a K color. The first diamond my husband and I picked out, with a VERY tiny budget ($1K), was a K color princess. Once out of the jewelry store, the flaws were VISABLE under regular lights. We were in college and didn''t know anything about diamonds at the time. We did return the ring and read up on diamonds before purchasing my current diamond (which I love

).

It''s better to wait, IMO, than to go for less than what you want.

Honestly, I''m not sure what the rush is. Save up and buy a pretty diamond online. You can get a great deal by purchasing a stone just under 1/2 carat (if this is the size you''re wanting). . .like a .48 weight stone, since once you hit the 1/2 carat point, you pay a bit of a premium.

Use this knowledge and connections of this board to YOUR advantage. Trying to work with and attempt a great deal at the mall is working against you both financially AND quality wise.

Thank you for the replies!!

I will be happy to post pictures on Monday, March 7. Right now its being resized (from when I was going to get a wrap, what a waste!!).

I think I''m now thinking SI2 and K in color is pretty bad. The yellow tinge would bother me unless it was a yellow diamond! I think it would look extra bad to have that tinge next to white gold.

I don''t have specs on the new diamonds... I wasn''t in the store for all that long. I''ll be checking again when I go see what I can get for my current ring.

I WOULD buy online except I want to trade my current diamond in. I have no need for it at all, don''t want to remake it into something new, just want the trade in value. The rush is that for once, we have the money to do this. If we dont, its going to go elsewhere. When dh is into something like this I dont wait around lol. :)

Thanks again!!
