Update!

My dear boyfriend, like any big gamer, has been lusting over that XBOX 360 console that just came out, and I decided to buy it to him for his engagement present, along with him engagement band (he told me he''d like one). So, I told him to not to buy it just yet because someone might just buy it to him *hint hint*. He was surprised and told me it''s expensive; as I''m a student, my gift budget is rather limited, so it certainly will be the most expensive present I will have given him! But I told him it won''t be much compared to what he''ll be spending. He caught on that I was talking about the engagement, and said that indeed he was going to spend a lot of money on our rings. Our rings? I said that I want to be paying for his, so he said okay, but we''ll be buying them together.

YES!!!

I have to say I was getting a little anxious about the ring buying process as my dear boyfriend is not the researching type and I don''t want him to get screwed. I really wanted to go shopping with him to try on styles and ct sizes and such, and have the opportunity to discuss the purchase with him before buying. And we will be!! We''ll even be buying it together!! We both believe in encouraging local economy and we''re thinking about buying from a well-established jeweller in Montréal, and we''re hoping to get a deal if we buy both our engagement rings together.

I''m not sure when all this will happen and if he''ll propose before or after, but he said he''d like us to take our parents out to dinner for the announcement after that. And he''s excited about getting his XBOX!
2.gif
I don''t have a problem with that, because the ~750$ he won''t be spending on the console and its accessories is 750$ more for my ring, right? That could make the difference between .75 ctw and 1.00 ctw...
31.gif

I''m so excited about this... We''re making PROGRESS!! A LOT of progress!

YAY!

Congratulations, Anchor!!! That is wonderful news. I''m thrilled that bf is letting you go with him and help pick the ring! And an extra 750 to put towards it will make it all that more fab!

BTW: 750 for a gaming system???? ohh, boys

Thats great news anchor.. Now.. don''t do what I did and get sucked into buying him an "early" engagement gift.. because I ended up having to buy him too because it ended up being so long later when we finally got engaged! LOL.. :)
I might be able to talk my FI into buying me those diamond studs I''ve been wanting if I offered to buy an XBOX 360 for him. lol.. Unfortunately.. this whole buying a house thing..me changing jobs.. and him getting laid off is kind of cramping our budget :)

P.S. yeah. how many accessories are you gonna buy? The higher xbox 360 model is $400.. I know they are supposedly coming out with big add ons.. the dorks at my work are always talking about them.. but I don''t think they are comign out for awhile.. to coincide with the release of PS3?

My FI JUST got a PS2 for his birthday in November.. So I''m not feeling much like buying him a new game console.

Sweetpea - You can say that again!
2.gif
I will probably never understand his obsession with video games, but I try to be nice about it. I'm not sure he'll ever understand my obsession with diamonds, so...

MelissaSue - I'm not buying it early, in fact I asked him to come with me because I'm as clueless about those things as he is about diamonds. I also want to wait a little because its price might go down a little once the PS3 comes out. He wants wireless gamepad controllers; those are more expensive and need a few additional guizmos like a charger and whatnot, and I want to buy him one game. So I think it'll probably cost me around 750$.

He's concerned about me spending that much money, but I'd rather spend that money myself... He's in-between jobs at the moment and his finances are not going so well, and I still want a nice ring come next summer, as I'm sure you can understand...
27.gif

ETA: I'm now 99,9% it will be next summer!! We were talking about the XBOX purchase just now, he asked me when I wanted to buy it and I told him I want to give it to him as an engagement present. Later as we were talking about prices and games, he said "we'll see what the prices are next summer" and "I'll have plenty of game to chose from this summer". Bless him, he can't hide anything from me to save his life...*insert expression of glee and excitement*

And my fiance was very impressed with your tactics; he said he might have proposed earlier if I''d come up with such a good scheme!

So good job!

And the summer is soooo soon, congratulations!!!! Keep us updated on shopping trips you take!!!

woo hoo anchor - sounds so exciting!!
Hmmm my guy and I are big gamers too!! I wonder if this angle might push the timetable up a bit?? he he

I wouldn''t anticipate too much of a discount in price when the PS3 is released though. I heard rumors the PS3 is going to be even more expensive than the 360. Also Microsoft is supposed to be losing money (somewhere in the 100s of dollars) already on every box sold so I''m guessing they won''t be too keen on putting it "on sale" anytime soon!!
7.gif

The games and accessories might be go on sale though....

I have to admit I''m giving myself a good pat on the back. Last night my SO told me he''d spent several hours looking up XBOX 360 stuff on the Internet. Now he knows how I feel, doesn''t he?
27.gif

Cailet - Thanks for the info, I didn''t know that. Even if I do spend around 1K on his XBOX and its guizmos and his engagement band, it''s about half, maybe a third, of what he''ll be spending for my ring. So I''m not complaining.
28.gif

YAY for you anchor!!

Remember our Xbox convo? LOL Well I told fiance about what you were doing and he goes WHAT why didn''t I get an engagement present?
39.gif
LOL

Anyway he''s auctioning off a World of Warcraft account for us to split the money half goes to my setting the other goes to the Xbox, accessories and one game.
31.gif
I told him I thought all of it should go to my setting fund. Yeah right. LOL

Have you started browsing stores yet? hehe

Goodness, how much money is that??
6.gif
You''re starting to scare me, because my SO has a World of Warcraft account...

No, I haven''t started browsing yet, even on my own. I was thinking about going next weekend. I don''t expect to find much though, it seems all they sell in those little mall jewelleries are .25 ctw rings, which is not reall what I''m aiming for.
25.gif

Miss Anchor you''re not supposed to find what you are looking for at those little B&M (be prepared be afraid to see those ugly included ''VS'' diamonds
20.gif
) but just to get an idea of what a setting would look like.

My fiance has a lvl 60 paladin with all those ''epics'' he''s played for over a year..the bidding is already up to $400 with a buyout of 800. Someone has already offered him $500 and an offer for $550 buyout just came in...and its been less than 24 hours...we just put up the auction last night.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!

We'll be shopping much earlier than I thought!!! He said he'll take me shopping on SPRING BREAK!! That's late February!!! OMG!! I can't believe how fast this is going now. It's amazing!
9.gif

Another great news: J starts working again on Monday!!
36.gif
He'll be working for the same company that laid him off because the contract was delayed back in December, but it's better than nothing at the moment. He's actively searching for something more stable.

Apparently, he told his parents about his intentions of proposing to me and asked them about the traditions. His mother is thrilled!
4.gif
However, his father told him to buy me a trinket. "It's useless and it doesn't matter."
23.gif
Like it's any of his business!!
29.gif
This man is one of the most selfish, greediest people I've ever known, and I'm not basing that only on this comment. He won't even spend a dime to help his own children. It's like the entire world exist for his benefit. The apple certainly fell far from the tree. /rant

Anyway, I asked J if he has a definite budget for the ring, and he said he doesn't care about the price. I think that's very sweet and I'm touched, but it also makes me feel a bit guilty because I know he doesn't have a lot of money and wants to finish buying his car. I offered to go the "backwards way", wedding rings then diamonds, and told him I want a plain, 2-2.5mm rounded comfort fit yellow gold band as a wedding ring. That way, I could have a lovely, symbolic ring, and he could keep money for his car and keep saving for my diamonds. But he's a traditionalist and won't hear of it. He insists it's fine. I guess I know I'm very picky (and educated) and I'm scared I'll fall in love with something horribly expensive... And I can't help worrying that all we'll find are horrible quality diamonds...
32.gif

*Breathes* I have to stop worrying now... We'll cross that bridge when we'll come to it. If I consider what we find at the jewelers' in Montréal is to crappy/expensive, I'll probably bring up the Internet alternative. I'm not sure he's comfortable with that. We'll see.

Anchor, how exciting!
36.gif
I can''t wait until February comes and goes so we can hear your story about the search; I''m so happy for you. It''s always fun to go look, and from the sounds of it, you''re really excited! Things definitely do seem to moving quickly now, so good for you! It''s great that he''s starting work again too. Wow, so much good news all at once!

As for the crappy diamond thing/falling in love with something outrageously expensive: take your own advice and breathe and relax. You''ve spent too much time here on PS (like the rest of us) to be taken in easily.

Make sure you keep us all updated!

I''m extatic. I really didn''t expect it so soon... YAY!

I''m planning on showing him a three-stone setting from White Flash I absolutely adore. He may be willing to work with WF once he sees the great quality and prices we can get from them!

Anchor, that is YUMMY!! You''re going to go with yellow gold, right? Have you seen aljdewey''s? It''s a 3stone in yellow gold and it''s GORGEOUS! Somewhat similar.

I''d love it in two-tone gold - YG shank and WG head. We''ll see what my boyfriend thinks of it, and what he thinks of buying online.

I''m keeping my fingers crossed!

Congratulations! That''s so much great news, I''m so happy for you guys!! I would definitely show him the ring from WF, it is gorgeous and would look great in two tone
18.gif
.

He may initially feel uncomfortable buying something so important over the internet, but like you said, the quality and price of WF is unbeatable and you could always show him the many people on this forum who have had great experiences with them.

Anyways, I''m glad to hear things are going so well... the end of February is coming up really soon!!
36.gif
Keep us posted!

Congrats! Beautiful setting, very timeless and classic. Will last a lifetime.

Thanks for the advice, I''ll do just that!

blueroses - No, I haven''t seen that ring... I''ll try to find it!

Oooh, anchor, you've switched to wanting a 3 stone?? Would you still get it two tone like your avatar? I saw mention of your wanting a 3 stone in another thread and was SHOCKED!
23.gif
Hehe, not that I prefer one to the other since they're both gorgeous, but you just seemed so set on your 5 stone idea earlier! So are you definitely wanting a 3 stone now? Why the change?

In either case, YAY SHOPPING IN FEBRUARY!!!!! SOOOO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!!

ETA - whoops, you already said you wanted it in 2 tone, sorry for not paying close enough attention!

LOL!!

I was pretty set on getting a five stone, but I always liked three stones and the more traditional side of me kept bugging me about it...
2.gif
And then my boyfriend commented on how "wedding ring-ish" the five stone looks, and I know he's a traditionalist. But what really changed my mind was seeing the WF custom setting. When I saw that setting (it's griffitk's ring) I just fell in love with it. It literally "speaks" to me, if you know what I mean! I've always loved trellis, and this one is just... wow.

ETA: That said, I'll try to keep an open mind when we'll go shopping. But I'm sure you know how that feels, once you've found the one, everything else looks small and ordinary compared to it! So I'll try to convince him to work with WF to get that ring in two-tone gold, and I'm thinking about a .5-ish ct center stone and .15 ct sidestones. That should look great on my hand and have a reasonable price, I think! Yeah, I'm excited about it. I hope hope hope my boyfriend will agree!!
26.gif
Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Haha, I was surprised by your "LOL" but when I reread my earlier post, I realized I did sound pretty spastic! Sorry!
4.gif

I agree that the three stone will look like a more traditional engagement ring, and if you still get your trellis and two tone, it still captures the essense of what you love about your original design!
1.gif
Griffitk''s ring is gorgeous and I certainly can''t blame you for wanting something like that!
9.gif
I guess I just thought you were one of the few LIWs where when I hear your name, I just KNOW what kind of ring you want, so it was a shock to see you casually referencing wanting something different.
1.gif
But you''re certainly welcome to change your mind as many times as you wish!
3.gif

So exciting that you''re getting so close to the finish line!!!
