I have been battling diamond envy since discovering this site and seeing larger stones. I was originally proposed to with a beautiful Tacori platinum ring with a GIA 1.12 very good cut stone. I paired that with a Simon G domed micro pave band. After some time, the pave wedding band kept losing stones over and over. I recently in 2021 reset my original diamond into a Simon G halo with matching wedding band as a means to get a bigger look, and start fresh with a new band. I have my old set sitting empty. I then came across By Bonnie lat year and am obsessed with her rings and craftsmanship. I have always wanted a 2 carat or so diamond, so I inquired about a lab stone and got some pricing and possible stones to pick from as a starting point. I can’t afford to just buy a new set, so I don’t don’t what to do with my original empty set, and current set. Would it be stupid to sell a natural stone to purchase a lab? I don’t want to regret it, but just want the By Bonnie set so bad. I’m open to sell all my rings to put towards the new set, but they do not accept trades. So my question is, do I just approach my local jeweler with my rings to sell them? Is there a better way to get more money for my rings? It’s my 15 year anniversary this year and would love to just go all out and get my dream set. I’m attaching my original set, current set, and my dream ring. Please let me know options.

I prefer your current set. The halo effect is the same as the solitaire 2 carat so you might be disappointed in terms of size.
It is no secret that I am not a fan of lab grown. So to answer your question, I would not trade in my natural for a lab.
Why not just purchase a solitaire lab to scratch the itch and keep your halo as is? Labs have become very affordable these days and I think you can even hit a 3 carat for a low price.
You can rotate both sets bc you might find yourself missing your classic halo.

Its not clear which one of the settings you posted is your 1st, 2nd, and dream setting.

Can you edit and designate which is which?

I would not sell a natural 1.something for a 2 carat lab, but that's me.

How much do ByBonnie rings run? I am not familiar with those, but Tacori is a well known maker as is Simon G.

Hi! I’m not seeing f how to go back to edit the original post so I hope this helps. Halo is my new Simon G set. TheTacori is without the halo and has the twisted shank and pave wedding band with it, it was a size 4 before I had my son, now I wear a 5.25, so it looks bigger, the By Bonnie is the tulip solitaire setting pave shank with 2.2 in the center.

This is what I was quoted from By a Bonnie

Noooo. Those prices are exorbitant! Have David Klass make you the setting and have the lab grown forum find you a cheaper diamond! That setting does not look unique!

I’m so glad I came here. I thought those prices were pretty on par. I want it in 18k and they quoted platinum. I also want a matching wedding band. I love David’s work but have never had any custom from scratch experience.

No, I would not sell a natural diamond for a lab diamond. Your current set is beautiful and I prefer it over the one you are considering. Have you been able to try on what you are thinking about? I would think long and hard about this decision as regret can be hard to live with for the long haul.

I have not tried it on because the jeweler is based out of California, and I’m in Illinois. I know I want a 2+ carat and the only way to to do that is lab. I sometimes look at my halo and wonder if it’s too trendy, I was never a halo fan until I tried on this setting and loved the coverage and sparkle it added.

You definitely need to go over to the lab forum and they can help you find a lab diamond. Hopefully, it will be for a price you can afford so you don’t have to sell your original diamond. Best of luck to you!

I would keep your earth mined diamond as you will take a bath trying to trade or resell since it isn't a branded super-ideal. Wear it as a pendant or set it in a three stone, maybe with colored gems, for a right hand ring. Just sit on it! You will be glad you have it in five or ten years, I promise!

You could sell your unused mounts on Loupe Troup. Many people like to buy pre-loved mounts for their colored gem collections. If they are not designer or otherwise coveted, they might fetch $500 each. It's something anyway!

Keep the bands as you might enjoy stackers later in life.

Then head over to the LGD forum and find yourself a huge lab grown diamond! Seems the people there can find them for a song!

Ditto @dreamer_dachsie

That's exactly what I was thinking...use your current stone as a pendant and sell your settings to help fund your lab
stone and new setting.

You can post your settings on the pre-loved forum.

for me, selling a mined earth grown diamond for a lab diamond would never be a consideration. But that's just me. Maybe see what the folks on the lab grown threads think. But just an FYI, I always look at Loupe Troupe and there seem to be a lot of lab stones on there, more then earth mined, so it might be interesting to find out why.

I think trying to sell my platinum Tacori unmounted setting and the Simon G pave band on Loupe Troupe would be a great option. Seeing them empty unused is sad. I won’t remount the Tacori because it was made for my diamonds dimensions. The Simon G band has 12 or so missing stones that I was quoted $600 to fix. I’ve had missing stone repairs twice and am over it. Here are the pics. Do you think they are worth a go on Loupe Troupe as I know nothing
about that?

Won’t hurt to try. Comp them on ebay and then list on LT.

I recently got my first ring from David and am working on a second (colored stone). He is very easy to work with and very quick. Oh, I also had tiny studs made for my granddaughter and he did exactly what I asked for. The screw backing kept coming off on one. He send a mailing slip, took it back and fixed it. I highly recommend.
