When we first got engaged my fiance got me a 1.55 E vs2 Asscher. He told me we can upgrade with time. So now we have decided to upgrade my diamond right before our wedding. Since my wedding band was only 300 dollars, and I dont want a wedding gift. Now we want to go up to 2 1/2 or 3 and change the cut to a cushion because the cut is really nice and is wide.

My thoughts are what people will think. I mean i shouldn''t care because its something that we can afford and He wants to give it to me.

Thoughts ?

I think you should get whatever you love (and send your asscher to me :)!

It sounds like you''d be upgrading through the vendor where you got your current ring since I assume they have an upgrade policy, is that the case? If so, is it through a B&M? If so, I would see as many cushions as you can to get a feel for what parameters you like so they can call some in that you think you''ll love. Obviously Mark T. would be ideal for calling in cushions, but I''m not sure if this is an option for you?

Have fun!!

Just so you know, some cushions are cut deep, too. So you have to be careful about that. But you simply cannot worry about what others think. I can guarantee there will be some negative reaction because some people will be jealous! Or they will think the new stone is too big, etc. I think you have to go into it with the idea that you are getting something that the two of you love and agree on and not think about what others will think. In a lot of ways, I think upgrading before the wedding is better than after. I''d try to think of some reason I decided to change the stone, such as, asschers are so hard to keep clean and I realized I wanted a more brilliant cut, etc.

I don''t think you should worry about what other people think about you upgrading. It''s nobody''s business but your fellow Pricescopers!!

Thank you so much ladies, Im really sorry but I dont have any pic of my ring right now . but to be honest asschers are really hard to keep clean. I have to clean it almost twice a week.

WHO CARES WHAT PEOPLE WILL THINK?!
I would think: that lucky girl has a very nice husband to be! That''s great!

But are you selling the asscher? I would keep it (sentimental reasons & you can wear it as a RHR). Or do you have to sell it to use the money for the new stone?

LOL.. keep practicing that line, it will come in handy later

But only to non-PSers, we would never believe that was the real reason since we are crazy and clean our bling lots more that that! I clean my RB in the u/s every day! hee hee

I say trade that puppy in for what you really want! But you need to be totally fine with that decision in your own mind so that you can gracefully smile and ignore any potentially jealous or strange comments from other people. Your new rock will be a beaut and a great size, so it will draw attention, but some of it may not be positive. Who cares! I upgraded 1 year after the wedding and I''d trade up again in a millisecond if we could afford it right now!

Now, about those pictures.... Fellow PSers, no more help for this lovely lady until she coughs up some images of the bling!!

If FI is generous enough to offer and you can well afford it, WHY NOT?

Yay for you!

If you get weird comments, they're probably from weird people. LOL. No, in all seriousness... I think most people will be happy for you. Why not be happy when someone gets what they love? Don't forget to show us!

Just for fun, don''t tell anyone and see if they notice.

That''s a great idea! Looking forward to seeing your upgrade - you must be so excited!

Well our wedding is April 25 so I still have a couple months, but knowing he has the money saved makes me want it tomorrow. But he says to wait till right before the wedding, because it will make it even more special. So if people do notice how much bigger it is, it will be at our wedding. So I would think people would be more understanding.

Thanks ladies ! im looking for pics of my ring for you. i have one but its to big

Just so you know, I traded in my 2.25 ct asscher for a 2.01 ct round brilliant, and have never looked back - I love my new stone, and it faces up much bigger than the asscher, and sparkles much more. A cushion has the same size problem as an asscher - looks small for it''s carat weight - so you may want to look at either an elongated shape cushion, or maybe even a round or oval if you want to to sparkle and face up bigger.

Also, just so you know, my original ering was a 1.64 ct asscher that only had a 6.2 mm spread, then I upgraded to the 2.25 ct asscher with the 7.1 mm spread, and now my 2.01 ct RB has an 8.2 mm spread. So, going with a diifferent shape can really make a different in size.

vespergirl- wow I didn''t know that
